More than two years since its original announcement, Konami has fully unveiled Silent Hill F for PS5, the first new main entry in the series since 2012's Silent Hill Downpour. Marking a significant departure for the survival horror franchise, it represents the first time a Silent Hill game will be set in Japan rather than the USA town of Silent Hill. No release date or window was confirmed, but you can check out the new trailer above.
The plot setup is as follows: "In 1960s Japan, Shimizu Hinako's secluded town of Ebisugaoka is consumed by a sudden fog, transforming her home into a haunting nightmare. As the town falls silent and the fog thickens, Hinako must navigate the twisted paths of Ebisugaoka, solving complex puzzles and confronting grotesque monsters to survive."
While the setting has changed, lead developers within Konami assured in a Silent Hill Transmission livestream that this is still the Silent Hill fans have come to love for generations. There'll be the recognisable blend of combat, puzzles, and exploration elements. The story is being written by Ryukishi07 of Higurashi When They Cry fame and Akira Yamaoka is working on the soundtrack. It can be wishlisted now on the PS Store.
On the setting, leads at Konami said they wanted to make Silent Hill F feel completely Japanese after previous entries leaned a bit too much into Western tastes, perhaps referencing a few of the black sheep in the franchise, such as the aforementioned Downpour and Silent Hill Homecoming.
Given the lack of even a release window, it seems that Silent Hill F is still a ways out and probably won't release for PS5 in 2025. Do you like the look of the game? Post your first impressions in the comments below.

Well this made my evening.
Unbelievably happy that this is still happening. The J-horror vibe is awesome, and the good reviews of Silent Hill 2's remake, and the creator for this game's previous work make it look promising.
Bit concerned there's no release window after 2.5 years, but I'm excited regardless. Hope it turns out well.
Holy hell, that art direction is sublime.
I like what I saw. It felt a little like Fatal Frame, the scenery and art design works so well, it's impressive that they recorded sound from the actual location, the composers seemed very passionate and I'm curious to see if they add any Yokai to the game. The only downside was no trailer for Return to Silent Hill, the wait continues.
This looks awful....in all the best ways. It looks like it will be proper terrifying and I can't wait to play it.
Japan does horror like no other and I think this could be really great
Looks decent and I'm definitely interested, maybe if it turns out to be good and does well they can try some other spin-offs in different countries.
A Victorian England setting reminiscent of a Jack the ripper movie or something with the fog and otherworld might work. Well it's just a thought.
Ok unfortunately no proper gameplay yet so I'm still gonna reserve full judgment but from what I saw here I'm very cautiously optimistic. The story is looking good Hinako looks like a really interesting protagonist love the atmosphere the creature design looks amazing aaaaah it feels so so damn good to see some pure no nonsense J-Horror in a video game again HOOK THIS UP TO MY VEINS!!!!! π . And KT MAKE A NEW PROJECT ZERO DAMN IT AND PORT THE OGs TO PS5!!! ππ
The atmosphere is THICC in that trailer. Character models/graphics look a touch ropey, but the art direction and feel looks fantastic.
I canβt wait to play this in bursts of 45 minutes before I get too scared each night after it releases.
This looked fantastic, I love Japanese themed horror so this is right up my street.
The art style is easily a 10/10, really could of done with some game play shown...
Itβs not exactly very Silent Hill, more just a Japanese horror game with the brand attached. It looks alright though, especially with Fatal Frame seemingly dead.
I was watching earlier thinking "I'm sure I've heard of Higurashi When They Cry before?"
Then I looked it up...oh boy...thanks Konami for making me unlock that core memory from over ten years ago.
Definitely keep an eyeball on this, hopefully it turns out to be good gameplay wise
This looks fantastic. I'm going to wait for actual gameplay before getting too excited, but it's really nice to see a series besides Fatal Frame utilizing these sorts of themes and imagery.
A period piece. You have my attention.
This looks amazing, looks like fatal frame 2 which is scary as heck, I'm hyped for this game π
Canβt do full on Japanese.. I need subtitles on stuff so I can look down really fast in case I mishear something.. canβt imagine just staring at subtitles the entire time instead of the actual game.. very disappointing considering I was looking forward to this.. welp good thing thereβs a good lineup this year.. finally
This is perfect for the anime lovers I guess
Now Im even more excited. I was worried how this game was going to look but it looks unbelievably good!
Most anticipated game for me, it cannot come soon enough!! Really hoping this game does well.
Part of the reason why the later Silent Hill games were so poor was because Konami contracted random developers like Double Helix Games and Vatra Games to make them.
Couldn't get into Umineko to save my life, but I want this to be good so bad. Please please be good.
wow, gotta say, that is easily the best thing "konami" as a publisher has worked on (not including kojima productions' work or remakes) since... this is going to sound crazy, but since suikoden v in 2006! one thing that has me spooked is this devleloper though. neobards? they look to be a porting house and have never developed a proper game on their own. cautiously optimistic but this shows promise.
Like @GirlVersusGame said, it looks incredibly like Fatal Frame, it's quite interesting. I want to see gameplay.
I am really digging the vibe for this one.
I hope it manages to catch the same essence as the Team Silent era of games (the best years for the franchise).
This looks like Forbidden Siren & Fatal Frame had a child than a Silent Hill spin off. But it looks interesting so i'm curious how it gonna play.
@nessisonett Puzzles, fog filling up the town, story about regret and inescapable decisions, and music by Akira Yamaoka? Sounds like Silent Hill to me.
After playing through remake a few times, I can honestly say that the new protagonist will have the same lack of combat ability. Canβt wait.
Looks cool but I wish they'd call these new games something else if their settings don't have anything to do with the town of Silent Hill or its history.
This looks fantastic. I love the art direction.
It looks amazing!
The Cult can pull the Otherworld outside Silent Hill itself through rituals and connections, this was established ages ago in SH3. In fact SH4 and Homecoming both take place in places outside Silent Hill, close neighbors in both cases, & SH3 starts in an undisclosed city too before moving to SH proper, so this wouldn't be the first time the Otherworld infects another town. There's every chance the story explains how the Fog takes over the town & the Cult's role in all this.
Creepy.
Its hitting the right notes and it looks good. But, not enough gameplay shown.
@nessisonett I think this is exactly what silent hill would be like within a different cultural setting. Having or expecting pyramid head and nurses across different main protagonists other than James would be a big misunderstanding of the central theme.
As for me, I love j-horror!
Theres nothing about silent hill since the name is because a city"silent h..." why those devs keep doing this with the games who still have something good. Well now dont! Silent hill in japan? Jesus nobody play the firat one? The 2,3 etc? Is a city right. Is good have a decent explanation devs! I know some of the gamea are not IN silent.hill but close. And the characters are from. But i hope the game will be Good. Is more like some giys here say...fatal frame vibe, forbiden siren etc i agree i little. But hey.... wheres the good and old silent hill?
Ohhh and plz no more remaster or remakes (except MGS 1 ok)
@tameshiyaku Iβm not advocating for Pyramid Head in every game because thatβs insane. But the first 4 games all relate to either the town or the cult in some way and deviation from that is when the series started to go off the rails. It feels a little like this game started development as one thing and had the name slapped on for brand recognition. It still looks good but I do wonder the difference in trailer views if it was a Fatal Frame game instead.
Finally an horror based in Japan! This reminds me of project zero. I hope they release it next year!!
This reminds me of all the Tartan Asia Extreme dvds that I used to collect. Iβm so hyped for this. ππ
In isolation, I would say this looks intriguing, although there isn't that much to go on in terms of actual game expectations here. However, under the Silent Hill banner, I'm not really feeling it.
I'm actually a bit disappointed they didn't just make this a new IP and then let the players figure out if there's any connection to Silent Hill, that would've been interesting. Anyway, I'm open to it, I'm just going to try to ignore the name and treat it like its own thing.
@nessisonett Silent hill nerd here, Pyramid head is part of James' guilt and shouldn't be in any other game, as cool as he is, they just need to make another enemy as iconic as him.
It's a horror game, and looks very good graphically.
But it simply doesn't have the Silent Hill feeling and general atmosphere...
My guess: 7 rating game... "there but not back again" so to paraphrase..
It's dark scenes are still too bright, you can clearly see all your surroundings, diminishing the fear of the unknown, the fear of making a few steps forward because you may stumble on a creature just waiting or roaming in the dark close by, unseen until it's too late...
Quite a few scenes are too colorful...
And it doesn't "raise the hair on your back" so to speak, as SH2 does for example...
Maybe the full game will prove me wrong, but I don't bet on it.
Oh, HELL YEAH! This looks fantastic! Fingers crossed it deliversβ¦
@GirlVersusGame Wow! Yeah me too. Think I had around 50ish of them. So many cracking films in the collection
Looks great. Can't wait to see some gameplay.
I wouldn't say this got me hyped but it at least has me interested, which is more than I would've expected given what has happened with Silent Hill after the PS2 era.
@Oram77 β¦.nowhere have I said that they should put Pyramid Head in other games. In fact Iβve advocated against that several times in articles about the series.
Wow! That looks REALLY good! Graphics are super impressive. I hope the gameplay measures up as well. If so, I'll be all over this come release day. I like they're setting it in Japan. It looks really creepy. Hope it turns out excellent like the SH2 remake.
@nessisonett yeah, the setting instantly recalls siren and fatal frame. Perhaps it's really refunctioned as a silent hill game, but it wouldn't have been the first time with silent hill the room also starting off as a different game. Funny enough, even though it irked many that the room wasn't originally silent hill, it's held in high regards these days.
The cult only really played a meaningful role in sh 1&3 and sh2 and the room have their own traumas and nightmares I think the main common themes in sh are fog, Akira T. Soundtrack and the main protagonists baggage.
@nessisonett and also sorry, didn't want to imply that you were expecting pyramid head. Just meant that some only associate silent hill with that.
@tameshiyaku Thatβs a common misconception about The Room not being a Silent Hill game originally! Story goes that it was going to be a non-numbered entry to emphasise that itβs a bit different but Team Silent always meant it to be part of the series, just that corporate thought the number 4 would make it sell more copies. Itβs a great game but I do think that it hits the same grungy vibe that the main entries share. Itβs mostly a feeling that Iβm not really getting from this trailer but thereβs a whole game to prove me wrong.
Looks amazing!! Can't wait for this
Haha the preview ends just as a cutscene is entering gameplay
I'm not an expert on Silent Hill lore and have no idea about how much sense this will make in connection with past games. All I can say is that it looks super cool, and I'm excited to see how it turns out.
@nessisonett There's no way Pyramid Head should be in Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta. I can't believe you would even suggest that
Still has a stupid name, what is it with Konami? Bomberman R, Silent Hill F, Castlevania J...
I'm just going to call this Silent Hillf
@Athrum that's what i just said yesterday.
Silent Hill F is pretty much just another Siren/Fatal Frame sequel that stole the Silent Hill name and tryin to pretend to be a Silent Hill game.
I'm not a big fan of SH but this is something new, of course many people already complain that is not SH but who knows maybe will be good.
Truly impressive stuff. Looking forward to this game!
Wasn't a fan of the SH2 Remake (Demake) but I can't deny this one looks really good
