Tekken 8 Emergency Patch

Following on from around two weeks of unmitigated chaos in the Tekken community, Bandai Namco has dropped patch 2.00.02 for Tekken 8 in an opening bid to win back the trust of its players.

In case you haven't heard, the game's Season 2 update was a disaster; baffling balance adjustments robbed the title of its competitive edge practically overnight, while a range of broken moves and crazy bugs further damaged the development team's reputation.

Prominent figures of that team have since apologised for the current state of Tekken 8, vowing to right the wrongs of Season 2 — and the first step on that path to redemption has arrived.

Version 2.00.02 has been pretty well received by players, based on the reactions that we've seen online. While the "emergency" update doesn't immediately fix everything wrong with Season 2, it does make some positive changes that should help Tekken 8 back to its feet in the short-term.

A global increase to health as well as nerfs to Heat-based damage have, to some extent, stopped the rot with regards to the title's overly aggressive gameplay. Some of the most problematic characters have been dialled down a bit, too.

The general consensus seems to be that the update is better and more in-depth than many had anticipated — but there's still a lot of work to be done.

Another patch is expected to launch before the end of April, and then a bigger rework is planned for May. Obviously, the situation isn't ideal for players or the developers, but it's at least good to see that the Tekken team is taking all the feedback seriously.
