Rebellion, the developer behind this year's cult hit game Atomfall, has described the title's success as "immediately profitable", according to The Game Business.
The game released back in March and was met with a great critical reception as well as the studio's biggest ever launch.
While part of this success can be attributed to its inclusion on Game Pass, Rebellion's comment suggests it's sold well in the more traditional sense too.
And, as mentioned towards the end of the video interview above, Atomfall's "massive success" has led to internal discussions about what's next.
"What do we do in the future with Atomfall?" ponders Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. "We've got DLC coming up... What do we do about sequels? Do we do spin-offs?"
He continues, saying the company needs to maintain a balance between "sequels and new original things", acknowledging that the new game joins the ranks of Sniper Elite and Zombie Army as one of the studio's biggest brands.
"At the end of the day, we want to make good content that entertains people, and that keeps them coming back for more," Kingsley says. "If somebody buys one of our games, I want them to go 'that was worthwhile, I wonder what else they've got in their library I can also play?' Because that means you've kept them happy."
A sequel to Atomfall feels like a certainty in some ways, given how well the original game has performed — especially relative to Sniper Elite, which itsels has spawned many sequels and spin-offs.

Set a sequel up north, the world is not ready for NPCs speaking Doric.
Brilliant news I'm all for new Ips not played the 1st yet but I will be
But it was and still is on Game Pass, surely that cannibalized its sales and couldn't have been a hit.
You just love to see it.
@nessisonett Fit like, quines?
I really enjoyed Atomfall. Took a gamble on it and glad I did as couldn't put it down once I started
Thoroughly enjoyed it, felt like a breath of fresh air at times with its completely non-linear structure. Would definitely be down for a sequel!
I enjoyed it a lot. It was the "hidden" gem of the year. Deffinately interested in continuing the story.
@Lup
I was always roll my eyes at that line of argument, for most games on Game Pass Microsoft cut the developers a healthy check for the privilege to have those games on their service. It's no different than Netflix paying production studios to have movies on their platform, somebody is getting well paid no matter what.
Still hoping to get to this one at some point. Glad they branched out and it proved successful.
I'm planning on buying and playing this soon. Huge fan of Rebellion they make fantastic games
Congratulations, Rebellion!
@nessisonett (#1) Merseyside, please! As a LFC supporter I'd love a game where Scouse is spoken 😍
