Warhammer 40k: Darktide players have been daring to dream of a brand new character class for a while now, and their wish is finally coming true.

Deploying alongside a substantial update on the 23rd June, the Arbites will be the title's fifth playable class, sporting abilities that revolve around a cyber-mastiff companion.

Basically, being an Arbites is like being Judge Dredd in the 40k universe — except you've got a a cyborg dog at your command. These hardened warriors dispense the Emperor's justice against anyone and anything they deem to be unfit for purpose.

The Arbites class is paid DLC, however. It'll cost $11.99 / €11.99 to unlock, and doing so obviously adds a whole new skill tree for the class, its unique weapons, cosmetics, and more.

But you could argue that the upcoming class isn't even the most exciting news that developer Fatshark has dropped. The aforementioned update is going to overhaul Darktide to a fairly significant degree.

Firstly, it'll revamp the game's core campaign with additional scenes and a more guided mission experience. The goal is to make the title more welcoming to new players — but existing Darktide enthusiasts will also be able to run through the reworked campaign if they wish.

And secondly, the patch will rejig how missions are actually dispensed. Instead of available missions being tied to difficulty levels, all missions on the current rotation will be playable on any difficulty. This should greatly bolster gameplay variety when you're enjoying longer sessions.
