Neil Druckmann Confirms Involvement in Second Unannounced Naughty Dog Project

@LordVile I think it's probably a new IP. I highly doubt that Druckmann would just produce Last of Us Part 3.

The Last of Us Part 2 is my favorite game of all time, and while it sucks that it will take a long take to see the conclusion of this trilogy, I'm fine waiting it while playing two new Naughty Dog IPs.

Long development cycles are definitely a product of the times but I can’t help but feel leadership getting big egos contributes significantly. I expect nothing from Naughty Dog this generation, save for Intergalactic at the end of the consoles life cycle. Sheesh.

I hope its another new IP. Quit hanging on the success of Uncharted and TLOU.

It's got to be Uncharted or TLoU related. I highly doubt Naughty Dog would have two new IP in development at the same time.

@Ken_Kaniff Hanging on to the success of Uncharted? It’s one their most beloved franchises, and it’s been almost 10 years since the last main entry. I’d say the time is ripe for a sequel.

Coming to a ps6 near you in 2030 lol. At least they are doing what they are the best at again. Shame I lost 2/3s of a decade of good gaming years to a big pile of nothing though.

@AK4tywill yeah, the people who made TLoU Part 1 and the early Uncharted games so great are no longer with the studio. Unchecked Druckman is what we have now and it’s a huge decline in quality. He needs someone to reign him in.

Any Uncharted would be good. Knowing Neil it would end up being about Nathan Drake’s daughter saying that both sides are bad as she brokers peace between South African mercenaries and indigenous people.

@MrMeeeseeeks he isn't a personal favorite person for a lot but he also isn't some talentless hack. All the internet does is speculate and drive half truths and bs. He is far from an issue at ND. He didn't force the GaaS title or cancel it. I'm sure we'd already have Intergalactic and be anticipating the release of this newly 'confirmed' title.

@MrMeeeseeeks wouldn’t go that far tbh, he’s overrated in many regards and some of his personal views make me cringe but I’ve enjoyed both of his games he helmed for the most part, Uncharted 4 not so much but TLOU2 I adored.

He was also one of the people that made those games great. He was the creative director and writer for The Last of Us, and game designer and co-writer for the early Uncharted games

Sounds like a new IP but i can see they make it with smaller budget.

@Ken_Kaniff They would pump out sequel after sequel if they're hanging on Uncharted success. But there's no new Uncharted game since The Lost Legacy which was 8 years ago.

@twitchtvpat I can't imagine with the resources that were dedicated to TLoU online that 2 games, with their production values and length, are both releasing prior to the next decade. I hope you are right but with Intergalatic pegged for sometime in '27 I'd imagine the next game is a PS5 swan song with a cross gen port. I do hope you are right though lol.

@Nyne11Tyme the two games were in production along side last of us online. thats why a lot of people that were brought in for last of us online were let go when the game was cancelled.

@Zeldorf Unlikely. He’s busy directing for an emmy-winning, mega hit TV show and writing, producing, and directing for Naughty Dog (you know, one of the great video game studios of all time). 😉

I'm surprised to see a lot of people saying they want a new Uncharted, for me the end of 4 was the perfect send off for the franchise. I'm happy that ND are doing a new IP, but I do really want a TLOU part 3.

We all heard what was going on over there, lots of shouting, lots of bullying and posturing, and unfortunately Neil won.

Perhaps go look up Straley and Hennig, these two love gaming and just walked away from the one of the biggest studios of the time. Hennig created Nathan, and Straley created Joel. Neils first big contribution was the Left Behind DLC and the ridiculous ideas put into U4 such as Nate getting his butt handed to him by people physically weaker than him, as well as his retirement.

@Fishnpeas Total lies, Neil Druckmann is credited as the lead writer of The Last of Us in addition to being Co-director so he created the entire game and all it's cast most likely.

Jak & Daxter X Ratchet & Clank would be a dream. C'mon guys, you made a point of reminding people you used to make fun games in the Intergalactic trailer, I'd love to see it followed through!

@nessisonett I've always got the impression from your posts that we have similar politics ,and so think I understand the perspective that motivates this, though I do think that it's based off a misreading of TLOU2.

Since Intergalactic is 2027 title (at best) this is probably for PS6 lol.

It's pretty insane that ND went from studio that made 4 big games, one expansion and one huge standalone from 2010 to 2020 to studio that is barely scraping 2 projects in 10 years.

As I'm currently replaying the Uncharted-series, which I like, but I do think has it's fair amount of flaws and with a new sci-fi-IP on the horizon, I would like to see a new Uncharted with either Chloe or an adult Cassie as the main protagonist. But they really need to shake up the formular and make the gameplay less restricted and more open and systemic.
But, I guess, it will be at least an interesting game, no matter what they choose. Something historical would be nice, too.

@ChrisDeku I was deliberately trying to avoid talking about this topic as my point was addressing the perceived messaging and political motivations of Druckman's work that has long plagued TLOU2 discourse, along with the way it has affected people's sentiments towards him as a story-teller.

Back when the game was released, there was a lot of criticism that the story was a repetitive, shallow reinforcement of the "Revenge bad" mantra. Many of us (myself included) felt that this was reductive, overly-simplistic and in many ways inaccurate.

In the context of the genocide there has been a new wave of criticism, often from the same people who challenged the "revenge bad" critique, that the game is in fact "both sides"-ing the argument. My point is that I believe this is another misinterpretation of the themes of the story, motivated by Druckman's perceived support for the genocide (which I think is somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction in the heat of the moment and remains unproven at this time).

So my point to Nessisonett isn't about the genocide (on that I suspect we agree on much). It's about the dangers of perceiving a messaging from something because of the current political landscape, of assuming some-one is a bad actor because we live in a world of bad actors, and responding to reductionist rhetoric with your own reductionist rhetoric. I could be totally wrong about what Nessisonett, or Druckman (or both) are thinking and saying, but I'm trying to respond on what the evidence shows.

I don't want to get into a conversation on Palestine here, because the PS staff understandably hate things getting political and off topic, but I do think the mentality you presented in your comment is probably what Nessisonett was criticising, and I would join them in that criticism. 'Both-sides'-ing gets nobody anywhere closer to addressing the systems and cycles that perpetuate violence, and plays into a historical narrative that supports imperialism and genocide. I just don't believe that's what Druckman was trying to do in his writing.

Why does this sound a lot like a PR nothing-burger story to try and distract from the mountain of bad-press Sony has been stewing in. And the way things are going for Sony, if it does exist, it'll be cancelled before the end of the year. I don't understand how Sony could lose control of it's own game development narrative, but it kinda looks desparate (and clueless) in a way it hasn't for many, many years since the early PS3 days. It just better not be another remake IMO; and to be honest I'm pretty well over the Uncharted series now. It had it's day IMO; even though I know it's still very popular.

And it's not entirely encouraging that they feel the need to calm the masses down by saying their new game will have parental supervision.

@AK4tywill TLOU2 isn’t even that bad, just a bit simplistic in its view of cyclical violence. Uncharted 4 is one of my favourite games but I mostly worry that Neil thinks of himself as above ‘childish’ stories cause he’s tried so hard to get in with Hollywood and so a normal game in the series would never happen.

If you do want to play it, you can grow up a bit first, then realise you're making a big deal outta nothing.

@nessisonett we joke, but I would legitimately love a Cassy Drake game that's more of a puzzle exploration adventure. Throw in that adorable... Labrador? maybe a Golden Retriever? and it'd be the best game on't PS6

@Mintie Lost Legacy was brilliant if a bit short so personally I think Chloe and Nadine are a better path forwards for the series if they bring others back like Charlie and create more of a community of treasure hunters.

I'm hoping it's a full on gay version of Uncharted.

Whether Last 3 or Uncharted 5/other approach like Lost Legacy, fair, no interest in them but fair.

If even something different again (not live service after that amount of effort put in) yeah Naughty Dog hasn't gotten me interested in a way so pass.

But whatever they are working on is still going to be interesting to hear about even if not play, but just for the news cycle.

Would rather have a Uncharted 5 than another Last of Us game I watched my girlfriend play Part 2 and omg it was the most dragged out game ever I was actually so bored and annoyed that your Abby mostly throughout the game

I think Druckmann is going to be under pressure to deliver a hit. His talent is being questioned.

There are questions rightly or wrongly as to how much of previous IP's were his doing, or partly the work of others.

The controversial TLoU2 sold well off the back of the original game and some shady reviews, but it's clear that a third installment wouldn't do so well and the TV show is in decline. The IP is damaged.

His new reveal bombed in terms of trailer reaction and I'm not sure another new IP would be any better received.

I think he needs to play it safe and knock out an Uncharted. The IP is untainted in the eyes of gamers despite a so so movie. He really needs Nate though, and not Nates daughter which would only come across as a weak Lara Croft and done for box ticking purposes.

@Cornpop76 a third final chapter is needed though. There was so much built up with the Seraphites and more that let to nothing, and more plots that were built up. Even though it had a kind of closed ending there is a lot that could be done.

They could also make a shorter prequel set between part 1 and 2. This way they can bring Joel back and have it more in style like Part 1. I think most might prefer that.

@Godot25 i think intergalatic will be out next year its been development since 2020, also this other project has been worked on for a while too, i think these games are going to come much sooner then you expect.

Jason Schreier (probably best sourced journalist in games industry) literally said that ND showed "early peek" at game and they will not release it in either 2025 nor 2026. So it's 2027 at earliest.

He said same thing about Witcher 4, as both games were shown during TGA.

If you are expecting Intergalactic next year you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

@Godot25 well its been in development since 2020 , i never claimed it was 100% coming out next year , i just think it is , maybe i'm wrong , but honestly i don't really care what that jason guy claims since its not really a fact either its just his opinion.
