Persona 3 Reload got a lot of flak last year when Atlus released paid DLC for the remake — content that many fans argued should have been included in the revival to begin with. But those arguments often fall flat in the face of profit.
According to comments made during SEGA's most recent investors call (as picked up by Persona Central), it sounds like Reload's DLC offerings actually made the company a lot of money.
"DLC sales for Persona 3 Reload were substantial," said the publisher, when answering a question about expectations for future projects.
Now, it's worth noting that Reload got several DLC bundles as well as the controversial Episode Aigis expansion. It could be that SEGA is referencing the title's full slate of additional content, but it did specifically mention the third quarter of last year — and Episode Aigis released in September.
Episode Aigis itself was a remake of the epilogue from Persona 3 FES on the PS2. Again, there was an initial backlash against having to pay for such an addition, because Reload — at least to some degree — was meant to be a definitive version of Persona 3 in the first place.
That backlash clearly didn't have much of an impact on SEGA's numbers, though.
