Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time releases tomorrow at the time of writing (the deluxe edition actually lets you play it right now, via early access) but unfortunately, we won't have a review for you to read ahead of launch.
For whatever reason, review code for Fantasy Life i has been provided to media outlets like Push Square very late. We obviously can't speak for everyone, but we only received our PS5 code this week — and so we need to spend a lot more time with the game before we can produce an accurate review.
But before anyone jumps to conclusions, we must point out that, based on what we've played of the title so far, Fantasy Life i is actually... really good.
Unless there's some kind of sudden and dramatic dip in quality as the game progresses, we're pretty confident in saying that review codes haven't been held back because developer Level-5 has something to hide.
Indeed, just last week, we reported on the very first Fantasy Life i review to hit the web. Famitsu gave it a glowing assessment in the magazine's latest issue.
We're going to assume, then, that there have been certain resource limitations that have prevented the Japanese company from rolling out earlier access to reviewers.
Here are a handful of screenshots we've taken from the title, running on PS5:
So, as always, we appreciate your patience while we continue to push on with our Fantasy Life i PS5 review. If all goes to plan, we should be publishing our thoughts in the near future.
Until then, let us know if you're looking forward to this cosy RPG in the comments section below.

If anyone's got any questions about the game I can try to answer them based on what I've played so far. Only about 6 hours in, though, so my knowledge is quite limited.
Like the article says, hopefully we'll have a full review up soon.
They really need to patch/adjust the way multiplayer is handled in this one. Being more restrictive than the 3DS version is ridiculous.
That aside, as a single player experience, it's incredibly fun, and it's really sucking me in just like the original did.
I've played for 12 hours now and still barely touched the story. Im still in the "tutorial village" and got all available lives to apprentice now, so i guess its time to start progressing the story. Anyone who liked the 3DS game will love this 1 too. Very addictive game.
11 hours here and while the multiplayer mode is a huge disappointment, the single player is hugely entertaining! It’s nice to play something so colourful and upbeat for a change.
@Nalim I'm 9 hours in, and I'm simply refusing to advance the story until I have all available lives to apprentice as well; I just have Cook, Paladin, Mercenary and Magician I need to sort out.
This game is just as charming and addictive as I remember the original to be; I've spent 600ish hours in the original, so that's probably a good take of how much I might spend in this sequel too.
Love level 5, so I expect this to be good.
Its a shame if multiplayer is poor for those that wish to play that way. But thats absolutely not what these games are about for me and Id have been just as happy to see them not have such a mode.
Looking forward to this one!
@Ralizah I never even knew the 3DS game had multiplayer LOL. I put like 200 hours into the single player though.
@MamaSymphonia Yup. Couldn't do main story stuff, but it was helpful for advancing your life ranks. This one is considerably more limited on that front.
If you liked the 3DS game, you'll like this one. Single player is a straight up improvement.
I'm probably going to enjoy this based on what I've been reading, plus I was very fond of the original game. However, the lack of reviews so far is making me a bit cautious.
My cozy game for this year was going to be Fields of Mistria but I have no clue when the full version will release so I’ll probably go for this. I don’t play multiplayer and that seems to be the biggest issue people have so looks like I’ll enjoy it a lot.
@ShogunRok is it closer to traditional JRPG or Animal Crossing farming sim?
@Dalamar The original was closer to a JRPG. It's very similar in structure to the single player component of FFXIV, if you're familiar with that.
I’m becoming more interested in this game, but I just have too much to play and not enough time/money. Definitely going on my wish list, and I’ll wait for a sale. Still haven’t pulled the trigger on like a dragon 8 even at half price. Just too much to play.
This definitely sounds like a game that’s up my alley, especially to maybe stream to handheld
I'd say more similar to a traditional jrpg. @dalamar
Dragon out the review just so you can post another article?
I just watched some streamer play about 1 hours in the game, it seems a really good game, I think I'll play his either on switch 2 later when I get it or on ps5 now.
@Dalamar Yeah like others have said, it's more of a JRPG in terms of structure. The life sim elements are really just additional things you can take part in, like cooking and crafting. The main thrust of the game is exploration.
