As part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, CD Projekt RED has shared it is working on one final patch for The Witcher 3. Arriving later this year, the update will bring mod support to the PS5 version of the RPG.
In a blog post, the developer revealed: "Later this year, we will release one more patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This update will introduce cross-platform mod support across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S via mod.io. Creating, sharing, and enjoying mods will be easier and more accessible, as players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S will be able to share a modding ecosystem."
The ability to upload, share, and download mods for your game will be free, and the feature is coming to the current gen of platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It won't be added to the original PS4 version.
CD Projekt RED clarifies that it's possible not every mod uploaded to PC will be available on the console versions "due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria". If you're looking to create your own mods, then you will also need to do so on PC. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will only be able to download them.
"We will share more information closer to the release of the patch, so stay tuned," the developer signed off. "Thank you for being part of this incredible journey over the last 10 years. We can’t wait to see what you’ll bring to the world of The Witcher!"

"looks like patches" - Geralt (lost somewhere in Velen)
How about Pro support as well please?
That's a cool final update for the game. I really need to find the time for another playthrough here soon.
@Oram77 :Updates howling...
A mod for Playable Ciri for full game would be amazing
@DennisReynolds Yeah, RT at 60fps would be amazing. Though, maybe someone will just unlock the frame rate in a mod.
I remember my kid waiting for the PS5 version but then they never played it b/c they had kind of moved on to PC gaming by then. They are a big fan of mods so I can see them finally playing it once this comes out. Still don't think they'll like it though, but I won't discourage them.😁
@KillerBoy So Ciri would be searching for Ciri?
I like that more console games are adding mods but most of the best ones are incompatible since they rejig far more than what a console would allow.
I wonder if an enhanced edition is coming to Switch 2.
Excellent, was planning on starting a NG+ later this year so great timing.
So will this be crappy mod support like skyrim on ps5 ,or full fat like xbox
@DennisReynolds Yes. Pro support would be nice 😀
Chaste Sony is obscenely perverse when it comes to paying out salaries for w@#$_& and live service ghouls. But allow one dirty mod!? They'd rather die.
@Oram77 Just make every character and npc in the game, Ciri.
@Dman10 if an upgrade comes to the switch 2 it won't be the enhanced edition but the launch edition and it will still struggle with that at 1080p30fps
"due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria"
So yeah, PS5 mod support will be far more limited than elsewhere as usual
If there is a mod that revamps the skill system I might actually look at this again..
I tried starting that game many times, but got put off by the card game. Gwent? I preferred the cards in Ff8, they actually had an impact on the gameplay.
Hmm... might be worth a replay.
@Michael2008ish Card game is completely a side thing, you can skip it.
@Oram77 Why not, we search for ourselves all the time
Am I ashamed I've never completed a full playthrough? - Somewhat
Am I glad I waited? - Yes
If they make combat more fun and fluid I might be able to finish game.
He is more stiff and clumsy then I am and he is a trained warrior.
@DennisReynolds and hopefully new trophies to unlock 🤞🏾
@nessisonett Elder Scrolls Online is adding mods on June 18th. Super excited for the onscreen mini-map and on-map locations for treasure maps and surveys.
@Oram77 yeah why not lol
If they disable trophies the update feel pointless but we shall see I guess 🤔
@OthmaneAD I think matching the base PS4 original version which would be 1080/30 as you say would be a win for me. Not gonna ask for more.
Given what they have achieved with Cyberpunk, I think there is reason to be optimistic that this is doable.
I would be happy for 900p if it eliminated the stuttering in the bog that I don't recall was ever fixed on PS4.
Hopefully with the advancements in dynamic resolution and up scaling since then, something can be done if compatible with that old engine?
will the mods break trophies though?
Hopefully KCD2 follows suit with the mod thing.
@Genghis_Schlonng most likely using mods will disable trophies, that is almost always the case it seems.
Edit - great freaking name, love it
Damn they pulled a Larian. I just started a new game but I’ll just wait for this to come out. I need infinite weight.
So no mods on killable children, clear clothing and replacing everything with legos.
Bought a PS5 Pro last week... and weirdly one of the games I've got back to is Witcher 3 (never played the DLC, and now well into Hearts of Stone). And yes, the PS5 Pro does make it play so much smoother, even without a patch. A patch would definitely be nice however.
Final update means time to play Witcher 3. I am absolutely smitten with Tainted Grail: FoA, but it needs some serious performance patching. Anyway, I'll get to it. Neat.
Hopefully there's a mod where I can play as Spongebob looking for Patrick
@Neverwild It's a final, goodbye patch for a decade-old game. They're hardly going to revamp the combat system now.
I actually just added 40ish mods to Witcher III and started a new playthrough. Glad console users can have access to some mods
I hope this fixes performance mode on the PS5 so that I can FINALLY play this game.
@L_Bosch I wouldn’t put too much hope into it.
There's mod.io support for all 3 stalker games on PS5 and nothing compatible has been uploaded in any of the three. Hopefully Witcher 3 will have people actually upload their mods...
