With a miraculous 10 million units sold across all consoles as of June 2025, the excellent Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is one of the best-selling kart racers on the planet.
The crime? It’s still locked to 30fps when played using PS5 backwards compatibility, and there’s no sign of a patch or native PS5 upgrade in sight.
Considering the game launched all the way back in 2019, and new-gen consoles have been available for nearing five years now, we suspect there’s very little appetite from publisher Activision to revisit this. But with impressive sales like these, that’s an enormous shame – we’d definitely revisit it at 60fps.
Still, the milestone is worth acknowledging: 10 million units is obviously a lot of copies. Of course, it can’t come close to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is one of the greatest selling games of all time, but it’s still an impressive achievement on its own.

I picked this up when it first released.
I'd never played the original so maybe it's because I don't have any nostalgic ties to it but for whatever reason I just can't get into it.
Strange as I do love a good Kart Racer
Better than Mario Kart. Fight me!
Great game. A patch, or even better, a sequel (which would hopefully offer options for quality or performance), would be awesome.
So I guess that many people don't care about FPS?
@Zeldorf the original ? yeah! nitro-fueled? LOL , no way
@Member_the_game nitro fueled is a mess compared to the original so i don’t blame you
I had a ton of fun playing this on release back in 2019. I remember grinding the platinum trophy, it was so tough but so fun.
I genuinely wish we had a PS5 patch/Pc port, but I doubt it'll happen anymore.
I've been playing this recently. It really does deserve a 60fps patch, but I found that after a few minutes of play I got used to it. It seems like the 30fps in this game is a lot smoother than other games; I'm not sure why. What was more noticeable was the long load times and even the 1440p resolution. I'd be more than satisfied with a PS5 frame rate patch, but a native PS5 version that offers 60+ fps, 4k and eliminates loading would be really great. I would just hope it would be discounted for owners of the PS4 version.
It sold 10 million? Why are they not following this up with something!?
@Member_the_game The skill ceiling is quite high for this game compared to most other kart racers. If you get in to chaining boost drifts it's really fun, but if that's not for you, other kart racers are probably better for you.
@ThroughTheIris56 Activision greed.
Today I learned CTR is 30fps on PlayStation. I have it on my Nintendo Switch, and I was disappointed by the 30fps but figured it was a Switch thing. It's baffling to me that even PS4 can't run it at 60fps.
I definitely also assumed this ran at 60 on last gen after playing the (pretty great, but 30 fps) Switch port. I prefer it to Mario Kart. I am weird in that I just don't like a lot of the customization in modern Mario Kart. And some of the characters I wish I could just hide.
@ThroughTheIris56 Probably same reason they cancelled the follow up to Crash 4.
So glad I have a jailbroken PS5 so I can play it at 60fps 😁
I have this both on psone and ps4, the ai in this is just not fun, when I'm in the first place in the race the ai seems suddenly and magically just get past me, it's worse than mario kart 64.
I enjoyed it on psone, I only play maybe 1-2 hours on ps4 although I bought it on launch day 😕
I'll never understand why this targeted 30fps in the first place, same with the Crash and Spyro games. Nintendo were out there doing 60fps on the Switch with it's 3D platformers and Mario Kart
This game being locked at 30fps is one of my greatest disappointments of my life with gaming.
@nomither6 I played both and both are better than Mario Kart, simply tha ks to the story modes and more engaging boost mechanics. I 100% the original and came top 5% in every season btw and the only thing I've never done is the dev time ghosts.
@wiiware Keep practicing. If you can chain boosts and avoid walls you'll be flying past them in no time. Even on hard difficulty I have no troubles beating them every time.
@AtlasLivesAgain the original CTR is better than mario kart for the most part; nitro-fueled is a poor man’s mario kart and a stain on the original. If NF was so great, it wouldn’t have died as fast as it did, or even died at all despite being released on all consoles unlike mario kart. The online was atrocious & the nitro-kart content is garbage. Most of us fans simply wanted a literal 1:1 remaster of the PS1 game with online & nothing changed except graphical improvements
@nomither6 Agree about the online, it dropped a lot during the seasons. I managed to get everything unlocked from the shop, yhough and enjoyed using it all. Customisability is important for online longevity, it's why I still play Fall Guys.
