The original Death Stranding is a very story-heavy game, and since it has been five and a half years since it released, it's possible you're fuzzy on some of the details going into the sequel next week. As such, Kojima Productions has stepped in to provide an official story recap video.
The studio has summed the first game's narrative up inside six minutes and 19 seconds of video, which is impressive in itself. "Prepare for Sam’s epic journey in DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH with this essential story recap of DEATH STRANDING," the YouTube description states.

The video covers Sam's journey from the opening few hours, where Sam is given the BB he begins to form a bond with, to his later encounters with Higgs and several large BTs. The whole point of Death Stranding was to connect the USA to the chiral network, and in the sequel, Sam attempts to do the same for Mexico and Australia.
Our full PS5 review of Death Stranding 2 will be published next week.

For those that have watched this, how spoilery is this for Part 2?
Downloaded the game this morning, the next week will be long.
@J-Dubs Nothing is spoiled.
> Heartman gives you a like
@DennisReynolds Thanks!
Never realized how close we were to DS2's release date
I watched this first thing this morning on my daily walk, and I was still confused by everything even though I played the game and beat it. I’m looking forward to being equally confused and hyped for DS2.
No, thanks. I have been through this before
😂
I got a decent way through DS then just stopped. I have no idea how to even begin playing it now and would likely need to start over.
Given my backlog I'll pick up DS2 in about 2034.
Still doesn't make any sense to me 😂🙈 And Die-Hardman should've won the Game Awards oscar
Well, the story looks intriguing as expected from Kojima. But, i was put off by the previous game being basically a walking simulator. I wonder how it will play this time. I will wait for reviews.
Death Stranding has taken the place of Final Fantasy in my collection:
Already preloaded it on my Pro, next week cannot come soon enough!
I played it through again a couple of months ago to refresh the story in my mind and I've already forgotten what happened
Excited for the game's release but I'll be waiting until it releases on PC lol. Hopefully it isn't too long of a wait, similar to DS1's wait time from PS4 to PC.
How long did it take people to finish DS1? I never got round to it, big fan of MGS and Kojima but the bizarre walking-sim nature and cryptic story of Death Stranding pushed the game further down my backlog, and here we are with DS2 hype making me question if I should get involved in the series or not.
Remember playing this on PS4 from November to December 2019, will probably play the Director's Cut on PS5 once I'm done with Expedition 33 (the upgrade was only £5, handy!)
@Medic_alert Same! I got bored. Beautiful game, just not for me.
I love how I played first few hours of the first game, can watch this trailer and understand absolutely nothing. Nothing has been spoiled for me, because I didn't get anything.
Not sure if beautiful or just bizarre..
If you want something a bit more thorough then i suggest this vid from Suggestive Gaming - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt65_5b9660
A really clear recap that spells out some of the less clear details.
Still makes little to no sense, but hey, I'll try it once it's on sale.
Tbh I just want Kojima to get working on other, slightly more grounded, things again.
@spazuluwarrior I finished it around 80 hours but i did a lot of side quest and building roads, bridge, zipline, bunkers, etc. If i ignore most side quest and build things then maybe it will take around 25-30 hours to finish the game.
And the game has plenty more than just walking. It also has combat, stealth, and building infrastructures. At some point, you will less walking and more running with exo suit, driving motor or truck, and ziplining. I'm sure the second game has new vehicles and stuff.
