Black Ops 7!
Surprisingly I actually think SGF was the best showing out of the main three. Not to say there wasn’t some great announcements today. Really looking forward to Grounded 2 coming when it’s out of early access.
This Xbox Showcase revealed almost all non-indie games would also be released on PS5 with the logo viewable. A sign of the times that Xbox has really gone third party.
I liked the look of Clockwork, Outer Worlds 2 and the game from Gamefreak but other than that there was nothing else for me. It was pretty poor overall tbh, no new Gears Fable or State of Decay, too many live service games and updates, Lackluster Persona 4 trailer, Playstations left overs (FF games), an £800 Asus handheld and finished it with COD. Don't get me wrong it was much better than the SGF show but for me no where near Sony's SoP, Sony's had many more games that appealed to me.
Also after watching all the shows over the last week I'm quite concerned for the Nintendo Switch 2. Hardly anything revealed for the new console and to top it off Gamefreak releasing it's best looking game so far on PS5 and Xbox but not on the Switch 2. Either they are saving the reveals for their own direct or the Switch 2 isn't as powerful as some may believe, I hope it's not the latter.
The only game I am truly interested in is Clockwork Revolution and that happened to be one of very few without the PS5 logo at the end, lol.
Almost everything except about 3-4 games.
Beast of Reincarnation was the only game that took my interest (considering it's a GameFreak game). Other than that, nothing else got me hyped. Not a bad showcase, mind you.
I do like that they actually showed the PS logo on an Xbox presentation tho.
When you like an Xbox showcase much more than a State of Play, are you an Xbox fan? Asking for a friend.
@Max_the_German Tell me the difference between this Xbox showcase and the SoP? asking for myself
Maybe I just don't like video games anymore, but there was nothing from any of the 3 conferences that truly got me interested. Keeping my backlog clean I guess.
Like I said in a previous article, I was astonished at how much was missing from the show. It doesn't reflect well on those that were criticising Sony for their studio's no show when they could and should have had way more to show.
Interesting observation, I was watching Maximilian Dood's stream and he was getting annoyed at how many games had licenced songs so he had to mute it. It's something I think publishers should probably think about going forward because streamer reactions can be a great source of free marketing in itself.
Cronos: The New Dawn was my favorite of everything shown. Bloober knocked it out of the park with SH2 remake, so I’m excited to play their next project.
SoP > Xbox > SGF for me.
Nioh 3 was easily the game of weekend, it was totally unexpected and shadow dropped a fantastic demo.
The Xbox event was alright but dropped off around the mid point. Some stuff looked okay, but nothing made me excited.
SGF was just dire for the most part outside of RE9 and Code Vein 2.
@Ilyn Came to post the same thing!
Imo this was the best showing of the 3.. ironically enough, had none of these amazing premieres been available on PS5 I would have likely bought an Xbox to play them 💀 blew State of Play and SGF out the water
Cronos in the fall!!!
Man Sop and xbox showcase completely f....SGF i actually feel bad for geoff keighley
Imagine if sony and Xbox didn't put their own shows and everything they announced was straight from SGF
@WolfyTn not really both of them were top tier plus xbox as console is pretty dead why you think they are bringing everything to ps because on Xbox nothing sells
@Oram77 actual big name RPGs and little to no Indies.. indies are GREAT but ffs that’s all we’ve been getting it seems.. Outer Worlds 2 looks sooo good
@DonJorginho another year for more of the same i guess
Just had a thought...was there any Unisoft games shown this week?
@AdamNovice Nope and I can't
remember seeing any from EA either.
@Max_the_German Not if you only like it for the third party games like me
State of Play was so much better
@AdamNovice Nintendo’s usually the source of the annual Just Dance reveal and considering Switch 2 was almost completely absent from both SGF + Xbox showcase, I think it’s a safe guess at this point that there’s a June Nintendo Direct.
@Grumblevolcano That's a good point. Was kinda hoping to see the rumoured Assassins creed black flag remake.
@Oram77 SOP is Sonys showcase. They don't have them anymore. Thats the difference.
I can't believe it but Geoff did it. One of the weakest Xbox shows of recent memory. I would say SGF>Xbox>SoP.
GeoW Reloaded
Clockwork Revolution
Mudang: Two Hearts
Cronos: The New Dawn
Super Meat Boy 3D
Still, some games to look forward to.
According to VGC the new Double Fine game Keeper is coming to PS5.
Edit: Nevermind, they removed the mention of PS5 from the article
@Ken_Kaniff That wasn't what I asking, and I knew that but thank you though.
Yah for the most part the entire slate of showcases this year were mediocre. Strange times indeed.
I don’t think there was a single game revealed this week that I’d buy day one. Still plenty of games to play eventually though.
RE9 looked very good, way above the RE baseline for me. Marvel Tokon was the most Wow moment but I don’t really enjoy Fighting Games.
I can definitely say that was one of the showcases of all time.
I liked the look of the hotel one with a cleaning gun
I enjoyed it. Plenty of good games shown and definitely be getting the xbox/Asus handheld end of the year. Give me an excuse to upgrade from my current rog ally
@DonJorginho biggest selling game every year shocker
Loved they put ps5 on the third party games such a pet pev of mine for all these games shows
@Scottyy what about future game show? There was some bangers in there
Loved all the shows this weekend if I hate to rate,
Summer of games
Xbox
Future games
Playstation
@Oram77 first party games?
No MS FS though
And MS should give us PS users Xbox game pass 😂
Well, I'll say this - now that Xbox is going cross-platform with most if not all of their games, my Get List is growing at a faster rate than it ever has. A LOOOOOOOT of good games coming out in the next couple of years I already have my eyes on. My wallet is gonna take BEATING.
Underwhelming across the board, unfortunately. SOP, SGF and this reflect the sad reality that gaming just isn't as creative or exciting as it used to be.
@Oram77 Then what were you asking if Sony doesn't have showcases anymore?
@AdamNovice Xbox do think about licensed songs, and pay to have the licenses for those songs and Co streamers in their presentations. The problem is that these sites tend to strike first and ask questions later
@Ken_Kaniff I'm asking what made the Xbox show so much better then the SoP.
@VenomUK well, yeah. Microsoft is the biggest game publisher for the PS5.
@Toot1st There were also a lot of 3rd party games shown, just like the Sony showcase.
@UltimateOtaku91 It probably doesn’t help that the announcement for the Switch 2 and it actual release was very short. These event was planned and prepared months in advance. Nintendo was also extremely hush hush about the Switch 2. Also given the current economic climate, a lot of developers are probably waiting to see how well the Switch 2 actually sells before jumping on board.
Nothing on Starfield? That’s the only Xbox title I’m interested in for PS5.
I hope they bring the entire Splinter Cell series and the whole Gears of War series and some gems like the 1st and 2nd Trials.
@Toot1st
I didn't watch it. Tell me some of your favourites so that I can check out.
@KundaliniRising333
It was a quite year, sometimes it happens. Hopefully next year has more AAA bangers. I like indies&AAs too but blockbusters are my beloved.
@Darude84 lol 😂
@AdamNovice
Yeah.. or just watch the official stream and get it first hand without someone ”reacting” live while you’re watching.
I’ll take the licensed songs thank you very much, while I watch it live directly from the source. I can react to stuff myself 😂
Streamers can react afterwards, after editing the video. The people can react to their reactions, I guess.
Just my 2 cents!
@DonJorginho That profile picture 🤣
Not many really got my interest but out of them all, Super Meat Boy 3D got my interest, I'm a old school type of gamer so it's right up my alley but I'm getting old for something like that now 😂
@nomither6 I was being serious.
It was a solid showcase, nothing special. Not that much for me here, but Chronos is still looking good. The Keeper also looked nice, I love the creative minds over at Double Fine. And Animo looked cute.
But there’s just too much i’m already interested in for this year and next year, not to mention those are Xbox only, at least for now. I will keep an eye out for Chronos, though
I thought both PlayStation and Xbox put on their best summer presentations in years. Over these past few days, I've seen an insane number of games I want to play, and there's still a possibility Nintendo will hold a Direct soon.
Please tell me why Xbox is so all in on this whole 2 different handhelds ?
I mean reality is even 1 isnt worth it really. Who's going to buy it?
There are plenty of top tier PC habdhelds out there already which do exactly the same.
They just confusing the market again with 2?
Didn't they learn from the series s and x it just doesnt really work.
Anyway nothing really to show again from xbox main studios. I still dont count the studios which were already 3rd party before they just threw money at them.
The big 3 e-presentations came and went.
To me, this was a trilogy of high, high class with so many games on offer. It is absolutely dizzying. Of course, horror games/shooters and Souls-likes (and even fighting games) were heavily featured and will battle each other in brutal fashion.
I am completely surprised by people NOT being impressed!
I think, overall, Xbox has the strongest showing. That Handheld looked sick and GamePass is just the best deal for flat screeners.
Here is the thing though. I paused the showcase and got on my PSVR2 headset and was completely floored by playing Star Wars: Tales of the Galaxy Edge Enhanced Edition <--- If you ever enjoyed being in the arcade shooting with a prop gun then this experience will blow it out of the water!
I felt like a Star Wars Merc with a cool device strapped to my left arm, dual wielding blasters in gorgeous 360-surroundings. GamePass can't do that!
Great showcase with tons to play on Game Pass.
@darylb24 And Playstation 🙃
@darylb24 gamepass is the real winner it's amazing isn't it
Absolute lack luster weekend for me. I guess video games aren't for me anymore sadly. Safe to say, I'll never bother watching another live stream.
I wasn't blown away by the SOP (it was good, but not amazing), but the SOP was far better than this or SGF.
Ninja gaiden 4 looks alright. That was it.
It wasn't exactly a great presentation. I was expecting some Starfield, but not even that.
@StuDogg yeah that was the most interesting game and it isn’t even coming to PS5
Bit of a tough crowd here. 😅
Clockwork and Super Meat Boy looked really great! The new Plague Tale game is also a big one for me as a huge fan of the first two games. Overall I thought it was a pretty solid showing.
Was hoping for Avowed PS5 edition - oh well.
It was the best show in the Earth's history. On par with the meteorite killing dinozaurs event.
Xbox had a best showcase, not because it was great, but because all other were rather poor.
It was okay, but nowhere near great as last two years. But since Spencer already teased Fable, Gears E-Day, Forza Horizon 6 and Halo CE Remake for next year, I'm not that mad tbh.
Clockwork Revolution looks like best game ever and my wet dream coming true. But even with Grounded 2, ToW2, Ninja Gaiden 4, that Double Fine game and Black Ops 7 I expected way better showing from first party.
Which is honestly hilarious, because there were literally 7 first-party games shown during showcase and one expansion (for Indy) and still I'm thinking that there wasn't enough. There was just too much stuff missing from them that probably should have been there. Stuff like State of Decay 3, Everwild or Fable. And also...that live service segments should die already. Like, I know that Sea of Thieves is still popular and same is true for TESO and Fallout 76. But please...why in Showcase?
No Rare Replay
Godot25 and Toot1st eagerly logging in here to declare the Xbox showcase the best is absolutely shocking and couldn’t have been predicted in any way. Just missing Rog-X for the full house.
@Godot25 The ESO,SoT,FO76 segments are only disappointing when it feels like a few of those games like Everwild and Fable that I reaaaallly wanted to see more of just didn't show up. Otherwise they're fine even if I know I won't play them, but I suppose they make sense to have here. It only hurts when other things didnt show up 🥲
@AdamNovice i like licenced music and dont care to have some dingus in the bottom right of my videos yelling "lets goooo" after every announcement so im fine thanks.
My two cents - plenty of games to look forward to between the three shows. There is enough variety and generally something for everyone. Microsoft was the strongest for me but that's inevitable when you like their existing IPs and also considering their studio accumulation over the past few years. Gamers are so hard to please nowadays when the chances are, most of us have considerable backlogs.
My feelings was that there LOTS of announcement but not "much". The only time I was genuinely surprised was with Super Meat Boy 3D. My other top games were ones we already knew about: Ninja Gaiden 4, Outer Worlds 2, Clockwork Revolution; these last two only because of the devs behind them because otherwise they look too generic "Fallout in Space" and "Steampunk Fallout" but Obsidian and InXile have premium RPG pedigree so I trust them to release clunky diamonds in the rough.
@crackeastwood Hey you might swallow a bug if you keep your mouth open. 😉 Just some advice Jabroni.
@Godot25 It was a very bad showcase no one agrees with you. Majority of so called Xbox exclusives are now coming to Playstation. Xbox is 3rd party now. Forza, Gears, Halo and more are on Playstation or coming to Playstation. Fable is next to come. These games to be honest are dead. They have been coming out for 2 decades. Xbox needs new original ip not 4 of the same games year after year. The next Xbox console will be the last they say and they will be full 3rd party only making software which is what they should have done from the start. Hardware has never been good for Microsoft. They have failed at the mp3 player zone trying to compete when the apple ipod came out. Zune lasted a year then got discontinued because no one bought it. Xbox is surviving now because of cod on Playstation. Xbox consoles aren't selling and sales continue to decline month after month. No one is buying the Xbox Series X. Everyone is buying the ps5 and Nintendo Switch and switch 2.
I don't care for first party games, just games and none blew me away. I've read up on them PS and Xbox (screw Nintendo) and literally nothing tickles my fancy. Practically all SP as well and the big event!! Another CoD, well blow me over with a feather, who wudda thunk it, there's another CoD coming out. Piss poor tbh. I'll just filter through them as they release, play the ones on GP and buy any of the others in a sale. The only one I may pay for is CoD, if it's any good this time, gotta get that MP fix.
@Don_Corleone Are you a person or AI? Because wall of the slop you just wrote made me think that this isn't a thing someone wrote.
I was talking about showcases. Nothing more, nothing less. If you need to go on tangent because of that and extrapolate your poor attempt to weigh in into Xbox vs. PlayStation ecosystem, that's just your problem lol.
If you think that I'm loosing my sleep over Xbox porting their games onto PlayStation, you are barking on a wrong tree mate. I truly don't care. I own Series X and PS5 and prefer Xbox because of Game Pass. If that change, I will change my main platform. I'm going where better deal is.
It's also hilarious that you are crying about "4 of the same games year after year," because last time I checked, Xbox has pretty great variety in terms of new IP's. Just this year, they launched 3 of them. Also it's hilarious that PlayStation guys a frothing about those "dead IP's" so much that Forza Horizon 5 is one of the best selling games on PlayStation this year
But please, go on. It's honestly hilarious.
@ChrisDeku I mean. You can check Geoff's pool
Considering how much Xbox "has no games" it's pretty interesting that they have best showcases year after year
But I guess those are probably paid users.
@Godot25 They showed a bunch of games people have seen before, the yearly CoD update and like 2 new AA games. All the Xbox fans are too busy game counting and getting excited by seeing the same games show after show. That’s why they announce the games 5 years before release, so they can show them in at least 5 major shows and game count them over and over again.
Sony showed Astro bot in one show(may 2024), gave it a release date, actually released it on time and then won GoTy. They didn’t need to stretch their games out for 5 shows so they can say how many games they have every time. Helldivers 2 was revealed in the May 2023 show and released in February 2024, and won Best ongoing and Best Multiplayer at the Game Awards.
Clockwork Revolution looked really good, it also looked pretty good when they showed it 2 years ago, and it will maybe even look great when they show it in the 2027 show. What’s the point of that? You want to count it as an amazing reveal 3 times? Ok, you do you.
Let’s see who winning game awards at the end of the year again.
Edit: Almost forgot, they also showed the remaster of the remaster, which is apparently not an embarrassment when MS does it. Even though it’s basically worthless to actual Xbox owners who already have access to basically the same game,
Removed - disrespecting others
@crackeastwood lol
@LogicStrikesAgain It's more expensive on PS5 now with the price increases, sadly. I would rather try something out on Game Pass first before I decide to buy it.
The Xbox showcase was the best this year, because the games are not locked behind a system. That is a win for gamers. It's only a matter of time before Sony caves in on first-party.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@darylb24 Why? Sony is not in Xbox's situation at all.
@ButterySmooth30FPS Profit margins are already thin and if they continue in that direction Sony executives will look for ways to maximise software sales. They don't billions saved up like Nintendo or the financial muscle or MS.
@darylb24 Profit margins are not thin if your games are successful.
Ghost of Yotei will do 3-4m in its first 3 days. That's more than Doom:TDA, Indy, Oblivion and Forza combined have done on PS5 all year despite "dominating" the charts.
It seems I am in the minority. But I enjoyed all of the game shows the past week.
Lots of good reveals and upcoming games to look forward to. And a good mix of family friendly games also.
As soon as the handheld came up it confirmed what I've been saying that Microsoft will have one more console cycle and then make a handheld and then allow others to build hardware for them
There are alot of great games shown from all shows. I need to get extra time to be able to play them all. And that's even without Nintendo showing anything new.
@ChrisDeku That's why I said it was way worse Xbox Showcase than last two years . Live service segments a stuff like GoW Reloaded were primary reason. Black Ops 7 should have been at start, not "one more thing." FF stuff should not be there, because announcing port of 5 years old game during your biggest showcase is just dumb. All that stuff should have been replaced by at least two high-profile first-party games. Especially since Spencer already confirmed that Fable, GoW E-Day, Forza Horizon 6 and Halo CE Remake will release next year.
They showed three new first party games, that weren't announced before (Grounded 2, Black Ops 7 and Keeper) and all of them will be released this year, gave release dates to two other already announced first-party games (The Outer Worlds 2 and Ninja Gaiden 4), while NG4 was announced this year. Basically only first-party game without date was Clockwork Revolution, which majority of people consider best game in Showcase .
So you basically took Clockwork Revolution and pretend that it is the case for every first-party game lol. Meanwhile Xbox have (barring exception towards stuff showed in 2020, when they were desperate to announce everything because they didn't have enough studios) been pretty quick with releases after announcements. DOOM: TDA was released less then year after announcement. Indy was announced and release in same year. Age of Mythology Retold year after. Oblivion Remastered was released same day lol.
It's especially hilarious in context of State of Play that you praised. Which showed teaser for another State of Play (Ghost of Yotei), games that were already announced and in some cases already had a release date (Metal Gear Solid Delta, Silent Hill f, Baby Steps and Pragmata). Not to mention fact that Pragmata was announced 5 years ago. And we can't forget update for existing game (Astro Bot). So...double standard?
What I said wasn't outlandish. If you take scores on public pools, majority of people agree that it was XBShowcase - SGF - SOP in terms of quality. It wasn't a huge difference between them, at least not for me. But it was still there. Obviously, you can have different subjective opinion.
@Godot25 Indy was shown with a trailer in 2021
@ChrisDeku Sony's game have to be successful because the games cost so much to make, that's why the profit margins are thin. Every time time there is a Concord or Marathon situation that's a huge hit to finances they just can't afford.
@darylb24 The quarter Concord released their net profit was up something like 290%. The PlayStation Division just registered a profit of 414, 819m Yen($2.9b) and are estimating an increase of around 20% for the current year.
What are you talking about with Marathon? the game is not even released yet.
@Toot1st if you like mass effect def check out The Expanse Osiris Reborn trailer, Echoes of The End looks very god of war ish Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream because i love stealth games, Titan Quest 2 as i love diablo clones also Crisol: Theater of Idols looks pretty cool
@ChrisDeku ive added nearly 80 games to my list from this weekend i find it crazy people find any games there they liked, what games do you usually play?
@Kienda me too ive added so many games to my list from all shows, its always the same every year though always people saying meh, trash didnt like anything shown i have no idea what games people these people actually play
@ChrisDeku all the shows were great i added 10 games to my list just from the sony show alone
@darylb24
First off, that’s not correct. Some games are still exclusive like Keeper, Grounded 2 and Clockwork Revolution.
Secondly, you do realize most of those games were already multiplat. You make it sound like Microsoft unlocked those games or something 😅 Activision, Bethesda and Obsidian have always released their games on Playstation. Games like CoD, OuterWorlds, THPS, and Fallout have always been multiplat.
There were also lots of third party studios, so naturally those are going to be multiplat as well like Plague Tale, Chronos, High on Life, Invincible VS and Aphelion.
@LogicStrikesAgain The fact is they are keeping their vast library of games multiplat, no money hatting or exclusive deals. Clockwork revolution and grounded 2 will almost certainly come to other platforms. You are making an assumption that they are exclusive despite Microsoft clearly outlining their multiplat strategy.
@ChrisDeku The fact is Sony does not have the same safety net as MS or Nintendo. They are doing fine for now but there will come to a point they will follow MS. It might be in 5 years time but it's happening. And we have seen what's going on with Marathon, it's not looking good.
@darylb24
I’m not making an assumption. They clearly said they’d put PS logos on the games that are coming to Playstation. They didn’t put a logo on those games i mentioned. That’s what i’m basing this on. I’m not talking about some hypothetical future. For now, they are exclusive.
Whats wrong with exclusivity btw? Nothing wrong in my book with Keeper, Clockwork Revoluation and Grounded 2 being exclusive to Xbox. It’s a common strategy in business to get people to use your platform/product/service. Ever heard of Netflix Originals?
Keeping it multiplat? Their games were never multiplat. They just started porting their games to PS starting last year, because they had to
@darylb24 That’s baseless speculation, and I’ve played Marathon and it’s very good. It wasn’t looking good for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows before launch either apparently.
@ChrisDeku We will see, but things have gone quiet on the marketing front since the artwork incident. Technically, almost everything is baseless speculation until it comes to fruition, your opinion or mine.
Let's end this convo here as it is dragging on.
@LogicStrikesAgain, I just prefer not to be locked to an ecosystem for certain games. I think that is pretty reasonable. I'm free to choose what I like and dislike just as you are. I would be very surprised if Clockwork Rev was Xbox and PC only, given Xbox seems keen now to bring all their games across to Playsation and Nintendo (where possible).
I meant the studios they brought - They kept The Outworlds Multiplat, Senua, Doom , and the other IP's they brought in.
Going to end this here as you have your own thoughts and this will just drag on.
Everything it's all coming 🙌
