One of the most surprising announcements to come from today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is a new FromSoftware title: The Duskbloods. With very heavy Bloodborne and Elden Ring vibes, it's another new IP from the Japanese studio that's — perhaps surprisingly — multiplayer-centric. You can catch the reveal trailer above.
What was even more unexpected, however, is that The Duskbloods is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2026.
"The moontears will flow for one and one alone when The Duskbloods, a brand-new multiplayer game by FromSoftware, is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026," the YouTube description reads. Hidetaka Miyazaki is directing the project, which caters to up to eight players online.
Just like Sony got exclusive experiences out of Bloodborne on PS4 and Demon's Souls on PS3, the developer now turns its sights to the next portable device from Nintendo. You'll need a Switch 2 next year to play this one.

This is April fools still right?
I'm not sure what to make of it yet.
It's a FromSoftware game so I'm always going to jump in, but it's not giving me the usual "Must own!" vibes. Some extended gameplay would probably change that.
Look, you have to let Nintendo effectively get Bloodborne 2 so you can achieve 24 days of Concord. The business science said so
This wouldn't be as bad if Nightreign wasn't a thing. I'm a diehard Fromsoft fan, I will be getting a Switch 2 but this should have also had a PS5 release. Nightreign already felt like it might be a cash-grab, now it feels like it absolutely is. Not a good look for Sony.
Fromsoft: "Friendship ended with Sony. Nintendo is my friend now"
Welcome back, Bloodborne!
When I saw that “Only on Switch 2”, I immediately thought about the reaction on this site in particular - especially with the strong Bloodborne vibes.
I will say the trailer didn't look the best, also look 2:32 why earth are there SMG's in the game..... wild lol
Edit: And the "rocket" man was stupid but funny
It just looks like an uneven hodgepodge of there previous games.
I can't wait for this game to never get a remaster or performance boost on a hardware successor.
I'm assuming this is timed because From going Nintendo only seems like an incredibly bad business move. But even if it's not... I mean, it looked rough, right? Kinda like ALDI brand Bloodborne.
Kick in the nuts
Now THAT!!! Is how you launch a GD system! Bravo Nintendo! The focus on fps in games too was great! I’m sold!
The trailer looked really bad tbh, looked like you took loads of assets and just threw it together without a coherent vision.
I’ll wait to see more before I even think about getting a Switch 2 as even though the price is good, the launch line up is a bit barren for my tastes.
This couldn't have been a bigger middle finger to Sony from Fromsoftware right?
The multiplayer part is making me go meh. If they just mean the usual coop mode from almost all their games then cool. But if they mean something like nightreign then, while the beta was actually fun, my interest has dropped significantly. And I did not get bloodborne vibes from this apart from seeing a monster that looked like the cleric beast. I literally thought this was night reign cause of the yellow elden ring lighting around the game lol
After gatekeeping Bloodborne and the calls for From Soft to be bought out by Sony... It's funny to see the meltdowns the minute an exclusive is made for another console. Opening my popcorn for the incoming meltdown
Well Sony's taken 10 years and done nothing with Bloodborne, not surprised From turned to Nintendo to make "Not Bloodborne".
Same way Sony dragged their feet with Demon's souls, and From turned to Bamco to make "Not Demon's Souls".
That trailer is kind of wild, I actually laughed out loud twice. It’s all like typical Fromsoft stuff and then the dude shoots off a in jet pack lol, then someone is fighting stuff and then one of them appears to randomly turn into a dinosaur.
Also, random dude turns up at the end with the typical Eyes covered signature From style, but he’s wearing only his onesie pyjamas for some reason.
Looks cool albeit a bit of a b-side. Kind of like Nightreign. It’s From Software however so it will probably be pretty great.
How many losers will whine about FromSoft "betraying" them, I wonder.
Multiplayer = no buy, regardless.

ITT - lot of people not understanding how billion dollar corporations do business.
No problem here. It looks good, but there are plenty of good games I haven't played yet, so I don't mind. If it were something unique, it'd be a big miss, for me anyway.
@charbtronic Not really, Sony still get the money since they own parts of FromSoft
And with that, i can say i zero interest in a From game. Also better see IGN and the rest damning the practice of exclusives becauses its so bad right? Is Bravely Default remaster exclusive because Square would be the ultimate hypocrites as well
This was the only thing that really caught my eye from the show. Knowing that it's multi-player focused means it's a no-buy from me. Pretty subpar showing from Nintendo.
@Dom_31 1000%. This is going to be a system seller regardless of how many people seethe about it. The only problem people have is the exclusivity, they'll make up excuses about other stuff, but that's all it is. And most of the casual market who don't abide by some self inflicted sense of brand loyalty will buy it.
Some of these comments I'm seeing are utter codswallop. I could season ribeye with them.
Plenty of games have been marketed as “exclusive” to a platform but they still get released on other platforms at some stage. I think it’s only a timed exclusive so will see a PS5 release sometime.
Solid get, but it's not enough for me to get this thing. Especially not for $479. The minute it was labeled multi-player though, wtf Fromsoft. Another one? Everyone chasing that unicorn...
Pretty hilarious we still don't have hardware specs beyond some general screen/resolution numbers for it and it's releasing in 3 months. Likely because it's underpowered and overpriced compared to the many handheld in the market now.
It will no doubt be a success, but Nintendo lost me a long time ago when they went the route of gimmickry and kiddish stuff. Nice to see some third party stuff gradually shifting over though in recent times.
I thought it looked pretty good personally, but the mention of it being a multiplayer game made me reframe my opinion of it.
Interesting to see what the "Exclusives don't sell anymore" crowd says about this.
@Enuo Silksong 2025 caught my eye too. I wonder if it’s a timed exclusive
Duskbloods desperately need GameShare to break Elden sales record~
Also rip Cyberpunk showcase 🤣
Mulitplayer-centric again? And it's only available on one platform? Not only that, but the trailer had a weak first showing—nothing that made me particularly excited as a FromSoftware fan.
I sincerely hope Duskbloods isn't the "next big thing" after Elden Ring. Myazaki said directing responsibilities for future Souls-like games would be passed on to other studio members. So far, we have gotten a generic Elden Ring battle royale and now another multiplayer title in Duskbloods.
Ever since the release of Elden Ring, I have been worried about the future direction of my favorite game developer. Some of their game design decisions are questionable, to say the least.
@get2sammyb but if it wasn't exclusive you'd be happy. Like, I don't get it. I'm not chastising you. But you're acting as if you've never played a multiplayer game before, or a game with multiplayer components. Did you boycott Elden Ring? Did you have a problem with Ghost of Tsushimas multiplayer components?
You're not reframing your view because it's multiplayer. You just don't want to change console or buy another. And that's fine, but just be honest, man.
Fair play Nintendo got to sell the system. Personally I didnt use the switch enough to care about the next one but its a good exclusive.
I was excited until I saw it was multiplayer focused. Now I don't really care.
I'm preordering it for Metroid Prime with PS5-quality graphics. First person shooters are not my thing, but the mouse controls are going to make this the only real console choice for competitive players.
Switch 2 seems like a real problem for PS5 given the dearth of 1st party games on the horizon. GTA VI feels like Sony's saving grace right now
Looks very nice. I’ve missed the last couple From Soulslikes (just haven’t been in the mood for them) but given the massive sales of Elden Ring I am kinda surprised their last two announced projects have been online multiplayer focused.
@VaultGuy415 yeah I agree with you there. The initial look at Metroid didn't leave a good impression on me. What they showed today was way better. I'm not a Nintendo fan really, let alone a Metroid fan. But mouse controls, 120fps and it looking that clean was a huge positive so I'm all in. Game changer honestly.
@piratemajima There is a massive difference between a game with multiplayer components and a multiplayer-centric game.
Elden Ring and Nightreign aren't even remotely the same regarding player experience.
All FromSoftware Souls titles had multiplayer components, but if Duskbloods is more similar to Nightreign it will turn off a certain percentage of fans.
Bloody Sony forcing those companies to work on multiplayer games. Wait...
@Paleblood and I can understand that. Nightrein though is not locked to multiplayer, you can play it alone from what I understand. And so will this. Yes it's different because it's not like a separate mode or whatever. But it's not like it's multiplayer only.
However, I find it funny that everyone changes their energy the moment this is announced when they were all trying to tell us the Sony live service push was a genius move and Sony had tons of typically single player devs who occasionally had multiplayer components work solely on mp live service games. This isn't even that egregious in comparison. But there's tears nonetheless. If it didn't have the Nintendo development partnership and was multiplatform I guarantee people would be happier. The majority of the userbase on all consoles will not care if it's fully single player or able to be played in parties. It's a complete non issue.
Holy multi-player buzzkill.
I'm not really into Fromsoft's multiplayer efforts. If this was the next traditional Fromsoft game I might have caved on buying Switch 2 at launch but I can live without this one. The art direction is as great as usual though from Fromsoft.
Maybe I'll try it later down the road.
Wow, people are complaining about this being Switch 2 exclusive? Complaining about the multiplayer component is valid which I am also a bit iffy on. But really, complaining about this being Switch 2 exclusive? You had Bloodborne and Demon Souls. Why not demand to bring those over to PC, Xbox and Switch 2 and you can get this in return.
Lol the game is a multi-player game after all. So much for bloodborne 2 🤣. I was interested on it just from being fromsoft but now I'm absolutely not tempted to get an almost $500 console for a multiplayer exclusive. Why even make it exclusive in the 1st place? You should be wanting more hands available for an MP game, makes no sense
Heheh, it's interesting seeing a site userbase that often cites From as one of the greatest of all time suddenly so lukewarm on a new game from them that happens to be a Nintendo exclusive.
Also, From will be very confused by all the fans and modders pushing them to incorporate true co-op, only to do so and be met with disapproval.
Alright Im buying a Switch 2 just for Duskbloods
Maybe it was just me but looked janky and once again has some pre ps4 looking moments. It’s From so it will almost definitely be good but the multiplayer focus is also an odd choice IMO
@DrClayman Suhei Yoshida already said they approached to publish Dark Souls but From said no and went with Bandai instead to make it multi-platform instead.
No, these Switch games don’t speak to me at all. Not interested in PS3 graphics in 2025.
@RoomWithaMoose the game is confirmed to be a PvPvE game. People here were already so negative about Night Reign, why wouldn't they be about an exclusive MP that literally gave off such vibes in its trailer
@RoomWithaMoose This happened with Nightreign too, it's a game a lot of From fans never asked for and don't want. Lukewarm would be putting it lightly. It still remains to be seen how that game will be received, and it will most likely impact this new Nintendo one.
@piratemajima
Whether or not you can play Nightreign / Duskbloods alone doesn't change the core of my argument. Even if you play Nightreign alone, the game design is still geared towards a multiplayer experience. No one can seriously argue that the experience of games like Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, etc. and Nightreign are even remotely the same.
Running away from a PUBG battle royale circle while speedrunning through bosses is not why I fell in love with FromSoftware, and it goes against the game design principles I once loved about their games. Whether or not I can do it alone or with other players doesn't change the fundamentally different experience games like Nightreign and Duskbloods are compared to the previous titles.
I don't begrudge anyone who enjoys Fromsoft's multiplayer-centric games, but it isn't my cup of tea. I'm still waiting for Miyazaki's next big Souls title. Duskbloods certainly doesn't scratch that itch.
@Th3solution @Jimmer-jammer As fellow FromSoftware fans, how do you feel about this? Personally, I think, akin to what others have said, it looks like a more evolved form of Bloodborne, but I am put off by it being multiplayer and am not really a hand-held gaming kind of guy, so, yeah, there's that.
By the way, Sol, I left some further impressions of Sekiro in the What PS5 Games Are You Currently Playing? Thread for you to peruse, think I tagged you but you might have missed it.
@piratemajima Who on earth said Sony's live service push was genius? It's pretty much universally despised and for good reason.
@arsmolinarc Really? Do you have a source for that? I'm not doubting, genuinely interested to read it! I remember around that time chat that Demon's Souls was not considered a success, which is why Atlus published it in the west and Bamco published Dark Souls.
@piratemajima
No one was saying that you absolute troll
Has to be a late April fools troll. How can you have been working on the next game for that pathetic little handheld instead of the main systems.
I'll pirate this on PC before I ever buy a switch, ridiculous decision to prioritise a game for switch when you're mostly owned by Sony.
@ChrisDeku Pretty sure even the site itself had several editorials explaining that the live-service push made sense and will make money.
I know I've argued with plenty pre-Concord that making 13 live-service games was a stupid move.
@RoomWithaMoose
https://www.pushsquare.com/features/reaction-sonys-live-service-push-has-been-a-disaster-of-utterly-insane-proportions
Make sense does not equal Genius Move, having an open mind is not a the same as excitement.
@ChrisDeku Well that's not pre-Concord, now, is it? Also swear the same week that guy was posted, another editorial downplaying the current live-service woes was as well.
EDIT TO YOUR EDIT: Sure, but that's semantics. It was definitely argued that it was a good move. Not too different from calling it a genius move.
Double-edit: Here's our man @DennisReynolds from the past in that article you linked corroborating that thing I said: "Wasn't there an article a few days ago defending Sony's push to live service? Make your minds up please."
Also a lot of comments on that article — including mine — address this conflict between the LS defenders and those of us ostensibly proven right in retrospect.
@RoomWithaMoose There was never a single post that I recall having enthusiasm for the live service games. Understanding it from a business decision or having an open mind is very very different.
@ChrisDeku Read my double edit up there.
I can concede there wasn't necessarily much enthusiasm for it (even though I'm pretty sure Sammy did, in fact, show enthusiasm), but that's not what @piratemajima was saying anyway.
@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN I am a tad disappointed, since I don’t plan to get a Switch 2 and might have wanted to play Duskbloods. I’m not too interested in multiplayer aspects of these games, so it remains to be seen if it would even grab me regardless of which console it’s on.
As for the portable issue, the Switch 2 should have an option to dock and play on the TV too, I suspect, so it can still be enjoyed in the traditional sense on the TV.
But despite some slight disappointment, I’m not going to lose sleep over it since I still have a couple From games left to play on my PS5, which should carry me for another couple years until we see if this is going to be ported or whether I want to invest in the Switch 2 by that point. Also, the non-From Souls-likes are getting closer to the From quality so I still have those as options on PS5 too.
Thanks and I’ll certainly check out your updated Sekiro thoughts. 😄

@RoomWithaMoose I'm glad someone remembers the articles and the comments on this site from that period. It was well before concord shifted the conversation.
Confirmed by FromSoft that it's a "PVP/PVE" game.
@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Yeah for me it feels like a b-side, much like Nightreign does. Can’t escape the feeling they’ve been built off of the scraps of a larger, more original project and then presented in the most profitable, corporate form possible. It’s From Software so this (and Nightreign) will likely be excellent games but it just doesn’t intrigue me in the same way a fresher idea might. Hope it’s a knockout for those into it though!
@GirlVersusGame @Judal27 Fair enough. I would still think people would reserve their judgement before seeing more, as they could make a PvPvE that still has their design motifs of discovery and danger.
But I'll ALLOW people to can be upset about that direction, if they want.
Multiplayer no go for me then. Not that I would buy a switch anyway. Only ever brought them for the kids. And my daughter is already preferring to play PS5 with me. Bad move From?
Guess I won't be playing this one then, lol. 🤷♂️
This means war.
@GamingFan4Lyf I literally said this won't be an exclusive about 2 seconds before it said "available ONLY on Nintendo Switch 2". Was floored. But i'll play it there.
Multiplayer = I couldn't care less. I guess FromSoft is doing so well that they can afford to leave giant piles of money on the floor in the form of sales they could have gotten on PS5. Whatever. Not my circus, not my monkeys.
i don't buy a switch for that.... no go for me - bring it on PS
switch identity crisis?
One more reason I'll be Switch 2 and steam deck next gen.
"Just a quick note before we all get hype, we're not tolerating any port begging in this comments section. We're here to talk about the game and the game alone. Anyway, looks LOVELY."
I was looking forward to the day I could post this very comment.
@GamingFan4Lyf
Same here. Popcorn at the ready!
@themightyant @AlexSora89 It didn’t seem apparent in the trailer (at least not to me), but it’s a mulitplayer-focused title, so I think that kind of helps dampen the shock factor.
If this was a singleplayer epic like Bloodborne, I think people would be burning down GameStops or something in protest.
@AlexSora89 wow 7 years ago and you still got a grudge. That hate will give you cancer bro.
@GamingFan4Lyf Is it ONLY multiplayer? Or single player with a multi-player option, like Elden Ring. I assume the later but need more info. I only saw the trailer, haven't read anything yet.
It honestly all looked a bit meh anyway. It's another PvPPvE game with the themes being all over the place. I'm a fan of all their games but that trailer did nothing at all for me. Dinosaurs, rocket packs, mixed themes.. honestly not sure what they are even going for here
@piratemajima
Are you a parody account?
lol the dinosaur! wtf was that. this looks so weird and like they just kind of shoved the Nightreign idea into a semi-Bloodborne universe with jet packs and dinosaurs. not upset to be missing out on another MP game, not playing Nightreign and certainly not getting a switch 2 for this
@themightyant I don’t know. I don’t think anyone knows if you can solo the game, yet. All I know is that multiplayer is the focus.
@GamingFan4Lyf THAT is a shame. Will have to read up on it more. Thanks for the info.
@Jarl76 “We”? Who are we?
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
Well it looks like a typical Nintendo game, lower resolution, lots of black and white. Looks character based, maybe x amount of premade archetypes. No actual gameplay though.
@piratemajima relax it aint that deep

@AlexSora89 maybes you should get a life then
Yeah I’m not interested in these multiplayer games from FromSoft. I don’t play these games for MP. In fact, I turn it off 😂😂😂 Anti-social FTW
Was a bit perturbed until I found out it’s an asymmetric multiplayer game. No thanks, keep it.
@themightyant it sounds like a eight player game fighting against each other but also bosses. So I assume maybe you can team up, but not sure.
Either way it's very much a side project like nightreign. It will interest some but probably won't do the number that a single player would pull.
This is no way Bloodborne spiritual successor.
If someone say this game is by From Soft, i would call them a liar because this surprisingly looks like a cheap knock off with reused assets from Bloodborne and Elden Ring. Heck, even a Bloodborne "clone" like Lies of P looks a lot better than this game and fit more as a Bloodborne spiritual successor.
Also, a big guy with armor + jet pack and the one transform into a dinosaurs looks very out of place with the game kinda dark-moody-victorian tone.
I guess From Soft worked on this game in the middle of Elden Ring development, maybe by their team B or C.
More multiplayer garbage cash grabs. I guess FromSoftware decided to stop making good games.
Multiplayer and a Switch 2 exclusive? Hard pass from me.
@get2sammyb that’s my stance, I’m really hopeful it’s just a bad translation and is the usual coop and pvp stuff. But if it’s a battle royale or wave based thing like Nightreign I’d be reluctant. I’m withholding judgment until the article with Miyazaki on the 4th.
@GamingFan4Lyf good thing most of the delinquents that do that live in the boonies where all the GameStops died.
So much cope in the comments
@Ilyn @GamingFan4Lyf Yeah, definitely not the game I want it to be on paper. BUT I also think let Miyazaki cook, he's a genius, the multiplayer industry needs a shake up and this looks like something fresh. It may not be for me, but I respect that.
Weird decision by From, since it will effectively shut out 90% of their userbase from ever playing it. While I would love to play the game, there is no way I will ever buy a Nintendo console to do so.
