Re: London's Burning in Watch Dogs Legion Story Trailer

DanM

Actually, it won't be the first time a Watch Dog game crosses over with Assassin's Creed.
In the first WD game, in one of the contract killer missions, you kill one of Abstergo's bosses, after being hired by "The Brotherhood".
In the next AC game, (Black Flag or Rogue, can't remember which one) he's dead and gone and you can find e-mails and dialogue in the Abstergo building in present day about how he was killed in Chicago by WD's Aiden.

Re: Oh No, There's More Modern Day Stuff in Assassin's Creed Valhalla Than the Two Previous Games

DanM

I didn't mind too much the present day storyline when it was about Desmond. It was interesting enough, conspiracies, fights, a race against the clock to save the world... Mind you, I still preferred playing the historical part of the games but I didn't have anything against playing as Desmond every once in a while.
Layla Hassan, though, pardon me, is just a sh*tty, badly written character, a mix of memes and hipster stereotypes. Reading her e-mails or listening to her recordings in the game can make you roll your eyes so hard they'll fall off your head... She's in the worst possible spectrum a character can be, a perfect balance of boring, annoying and pure cringeness.
TLDR: I despise Layla and her pointless story

Re: The Hardest PS4 Platinum Trophies

DanM

I only ever do platinums if they're reasonable, in that they give me a reason to get a little more enjoyment out of a game I might otherwise be done with.
The moment I look at a trophy list and see something like "Jump 15.000 times on your left leg on top of the tallest pillar on the edge of the volcano without being hit once by lightning bolts" I just stop caring. That, and online trophies.

Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Doesn't Use the Origins and Odyssey Loot System

DanM

If I remember correctly, weapons and gear can already be upgraded at any blacksmith in Odyssey and Origins, if they are too low-level to be used. It costs more money the more and higher levels you need the weapon to reach, but it can be done. It's very useful if you find a weapon early on with a very good effect and you want to use it the whole game. You got to be rich, though

Re: Mafia III Story DLC Is Now Free for Everyone

DanM

Well, sh*t.
I already have the game and all the DLCs, all bought and paid for at the time... Had I known we would eventually get all of of it for free...
But I'm happy for those who haven't played them yet, they're a nice, fun little addition to the game, especially "Faster, baby"

Re: Rumour: 'Gigantic' Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Will Feature Co-Op on PS5

DanM

The first thing that came to my mind is Death Stranding's co-op. After all DS was made with Guerrilla collaboration. It would be incredibly easy to implement it in HZD2, and it would be very interesting. Like going around and finding traces of other hunters, materials and weapons they leave for you...Maybe even suggestions on how to tackle the bosses... I think it would work very well given the setting of the game, just like in Death Stranding

Re: Supremely Skilled God of War Player Beats Hardest Boss with No Upgrades

DanM

Kind of a slow burn fight, which is obvious, since he deals very little damage, but the skills are impressive. I didn't find the fight with her all that difficult when I did it, but then again, I waited to do it until the very end, when Kratos was upgraded as best as he could be I don't think I would even last a second against her with no upgrades

Re: Guide: Best Free PS4 Themes

DanM

I use almost exclusively the Geralt vs Monsters theme. Sometimes I switch it with something else for a day or two, but I always end up switching back, by now it's become my default theme I really like the music, the sound effects, and I absolutely love the icons. The chopped off Griffin 's head for the trophies is the best

Re: Reaction: PS5 Deep Dive Was As Expected, But Was Shockingly Misjudged

DanM

@wiiware Yeah, everyone has their own needs and preferences, which is why I said that specs aren't the most important thing.
For example, all my friends play on PlayStation, but very few of them play exclusives. Most people I know play on it because pretty much everyone they know does it as well, they don't care about specs and teraflops and so on, because if they want to play with their friends they need to buy a PlayStation anyway. Of course, that's because where I live almost nobody plays on Xbox. I suppose in other places it'll be different...
But that's what I'm saying, regardless of what games anyone plays, there's many more important things they need to consider in buying a console or the other, and all of those come before teraflops, pixels and all that crap

Re: Fan Noise Shouldn't Be a Problem for PS5

DanM

@Chryssy75 No, no.. I don't, but sometimes I lift the heat sink part which is kind of tricky because of all the cables, you've gotta be careful not to detach them. But you can clean it pretty well even without doing that. The trick is to blow the air from the back of the PS4, where the hot air usually comes out, moving the fan in reverse. There is no point in blowing the air IN the fan until after you did that, because if the dust didn't come out when the fan was moving by itself, it won't come out when it moves because of you.
When you do it the first time it'll be like a geyser of dust coming out the fan

Re: Reaction: PS5 Deep Dive Was As Expected, But Was Shockingly Misjudged

DanM

@Cybrshrk to quote you "it only makes sense to go where the best place to play the games they care about." That's the same thing I said, isn't it? "Games are the only thing that matters, and people will buy one console or the other, or both of them, depending on their tastes in games".
I used exclusives as an obvious example, not as the only reason. First come the games, exclusives or not, then you choose your preference of console. That's all. If you like Call of Duty, it's obvious you'll get a console that plays it better, which is all I was saying, the games come first

Re: Reaction: PS5 Deep Dive Was As Expected, But Was Shockingly Misjudged

DanM

I thought it was really interesting, although Cerny's deadpan monotone made it feel a little more boring than it actually was.
Personally, I'm tired about all the Xbox numbers comparisons.
It's pointless.
If, for example, I want to play God of War 2, I have to play it on PS5, teraflops be damned. It's not like the Xbox having more "flops" will let me play PS exclusives on it, right? So what's the point of comparing the two? If you like PS games more, you'll buy a PS5, if you like Xbox games more, you'll buy a Series X.
I seriously doubt anyone will buy either of the consoles simply by looking at the specs. Hardware's never been a console selling point, it's just an incentive. The cherry on top. Games are the only thing that matters, and people will buy one console or the other, or both of them, depending on their tastes in games (and the size of their wallets), not on 'flops.
In my case, I buy PlayStation consoles instead of Xboxes for three simple reasons: I like PS exclusives, I find asymmetrical sticks on a controller incredibly uncomfortable, and a lifetime use of Windows OSs on my PC left me with a deep distrust of anything Microsoft

Re: Fan Noise Shouldn't Be a Problem for PS5

DanM

I just clean the fan.
A few years ago my PS4 used to be a "jet engine" like everyone else's, loud to the point I couldn't hear the games even with headphones on. So I opened it and cleaned it up. There was so much dust... the way the PS4 is built internally lets dust accumulate very easily. After I cleaned it, it got so quiet I could barely hear it even when almost touching the console with my ear.
It has now become an habit of mine, whenever the fan starts getting loud, I open the PS4, blow all the dust out the fan and the heat sink and close it up. I do It every three months or so, but that's because I don't wait for the fan to reach the jet engine volume before cleaning it. My PS4 isn't noisy at all.
If you have a really loud fan, there's plenty of tutorials online on how to clean it, it's really easy, you just need a screwdriver and a compressed air can, or just a good pair of lungs

Re: Coronavirus Could Very Well Lead to PS4 Game Delays

DanM

Well, I don't mind a few delays, let them take their time.
I live in Lombardy, in Italy and I have to work from home now, so one of the things this quarantine has going for it, beside all the health issues, is that not being able to go out unless it's strictly necessary or having to commute to work is really helping me clear my backlog

Re: Fallout 76 Wastelanders Update Finally Arrives in April

DanM

Wait, what?! They haven't added NPCs yet?!
I remember quite a lot of people were pretty pissed off about their absence from day one, I thought they had added them ages ago...
It seems a pretty essential gameplay feature to me, but then again, why am I surprised, the game not being broken is a pretty essential feature too, but from what I hear, they haven't gotten around to that yet either

Re: Death Stranding Patch 1.10 Removes Repetitive BT Encounter Animation

DanM

@Lonejester You can clear them all out actually, if you want to clear a route for deliveries. Not by killing the boss after getting caught though, if you clear them that way they will respawn. But if you kill them one by one they will never respawn until post-game. I did it like that, took a little time to clear the most annoying areas and then it was smooth deliveries all over. It's worth it to spend a couple hours to kill them because it'll spare you dozens of hours of going around them slowly or backtracking to avoid them if you're in a vehicle. Just kill all the ones in your way and then you can run and drive straight through BT zones.

Re: Reminder: Stunning Ghost of Tsushima PS4 Dynamic Theme Is Only Free for Another Week

DanM

It's not bad, but I don't see it lasting more than 3 days on my ps4. No matter how many themes I try, I always end up using the "Geralt vs. Monsters" theme from Wild Hunt. It's now become the default theme for me, the music is nice and the icons are good; I like the trophies icon especially, it's the chopped off, stabbed head of a griffin .
But this one IS good. Maybe it'll even last 4 days

Re: Ubisoft Wants to Avoid Its PS5 Games Playing Like Copy and Pastes

DanM

I dunno. I could see the repetition getting pretty tiresome if you play a lot of Ubisoft games, but it doesn't really bother me. The only Ubisoft games I play are the various Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs. The WD games have enough unique and interesting mechanics (Watch Dogs 2 especially) to differentiate themselves. And I don't really mind the similarities in the AC games because I play them mostly for the historical settings anyway. Oh, I also played Far Cry Primal... Nothing beats riding around on a sabertooth tiger, shooting arrows at Neanderthals

Re: Talking Point: Is Sony Right to Skip E3 2020?

DanM

Personally, I couldn't care less. Wherever Sony chooses to reveal their stuff, be it E3 or S3 or E2 or whatever... Makes no difference to me. Does it matter where the video I'm watching was recorded/streamed? Who cares? As long as we get news and announcements in a timely fashion, what's the big deal?
Also, is this like the seventh article today about Sony not going to E3? Seem a little too many to me

Re: There Will Be Exclusives You Can Only Play on PS5

DanM

@kyleforrester87 I agree. I never understood why so many dislike it. I never played it online, so I wouldn't know about the multiplayer, but for a single player experience the campaign wasn't bad at all, especially for an FPS

Re: Soapbox: Why You Must Play Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection While It's Free on PS Plus

DanM

@nessisonett more like you sat down at the table, sniffed the food, then ran screaming out the door...
To be clear you really, really, really should play 2 and 3 .
They're my favourites to be honest, I even prefer them to Uncharted 4.
2 because of the story and 3 because of the set pieces. I must've replayed the plane sequence in 3 forty or fifty times. 2 does have a really crappy ending boss fight, though...There's no denying that

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Shows Off RPG Elements as Goku and the Gang Get Stronger

DanM

This does look grindy to me... or, at the very least, incredibly annoying. So you obtain exp and level up.... but then to unlock skills you have to collect globes. And medals. And emblems... And to raise stats you have to eat. Or cook. Or make someone else cook for you... God only knows what else you'll need to do to unlock other basic rpg mechanics... It all seems pointlessly convoluted and unnecessary. The combat looks good, though

Re: Death Stranding Band Low Roar Saved by PS4 Game

DanM

@ShaiHulud They annoy the hell out of me too. This time in particular it didn't confuse me but often reading the title two or three times is needed to understand it, if even that is possible. I can certainly remember a couple of times I had to actually read the article before I understood what the hell was written in the title. I don't understand why every single word on every title is capitalized. Well not all, words like "the", "of", and "by" usually aren't, which makes it even more confusing

Re: Xbox Series X Has a Share Button, Hellblade Sequel

DanM

@Nickolaidas Yeah, that really underlines how dumb they are in choosing names, doesn't it? I mean, when you hear "One", do you think "1" or "all-in-one entertainment system" ? It seems to me customers shouldn't have to google the meaning of the name of their console. That's the real problem with MS, too much importance on Marketing, not enough on Gaming.

Re: PS4 Exclusive Ghost of Tsushima's New Trailer Is Even Better in Japanese

DanM

I think it really depends on the game. I'll probably play this in Japanese, but I would give anything to have a little English in Dragonball Xenoverse 2. There's this radio/public announcements thing that Bulma's voice actor does, and they are the singular most irritating thing I have ever heard in a game. They're not translated or subtitled, they can't be muted and they are told every 30 seconds or so in the most annoying, jarring, exaggerated, whiny, japanese-girl voice you have ever heard. Makes you want to strangle her.... So, to sum it up, it depends, case by case.

Re: Xbox Series X Has a Share Button, Hellblade Sequel

DanM

@Nickolaidas Makes sense, or it would if they never numbered them. One, as in Xbox One, is a number. I don't see anyone saying that the Xbox One is three generations behind the PS4 . Just goes to show the amount of thought and consistency MS puts in naming their consoles.

Re: Xbox Series X Has a Share Button, Hellblade Sequel

DanM

@PressR2 ......... maybe because the current Xbox is the Xbox One?... You know, 1, 2, 3 and so on... It was a joke about how illogical MS's naming sense is. You do realize that the Xbox One is not the first Xbox either, right?
