Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Gets Positive Reviews In Japan as Bayonetta Director Speaks Out

AhmadSumadi

@Boxmonkey it’s amazing to me that the overall mood you’ve seen about Yasuke is based on how he is as a character and not him being a Black guy in Feudal Japan. I’ve seen it both ways. But damn if it hasn’t been mostly about his race.

Look, I’ll never understand why people choose to pretend it’s one thing and not the other. You don’t have to be “woke” (I’m not) to see or say what it’s really about. Don’t pretend like it really is what you just said it is because you know 🤬 well it’s not!

Re: Japan's Game Industry on Impressive Rise as Western AAA Development Struggles

AhmadSumadi

It ebbs and flows. A decade ago, it was the reverse. You people always try to jock Japan and put down everyone else. This is why most of the Sahdows outrage came from westerners on behalf of the Japanese, while most of the Japanese media seems to be impressed with the game. Hell, even something like this is being turned into a culture war. What was the reason a decade ago when Japan struggled and the west was won?

Also, to those who say the west alienates most of their audience before the game even releases. That’s on gamers, not game makers. You all put too much of your identity into video games. Funnily enough, those same people laugh at others for connecting stuff so closely to their own identity.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on Bloodborne, 10 Years Later?

AhmadSumadi

I’ve always wanted to love Souls games but they’re too distressing for me. I play games to take in the story and destress. If the hard mode isn’t required for the platinum trophy I don’t play it. With Souls games, it’s always on hard mode lol. Bloodborne was super interesting to me but I lost interest quickly.

Re: At a Tumultuous Time, Assassin's Creed Shadows Is Doing the Business for Ubisoft

@Zuljaras I see. It’s crazy that he posts the full transcript but it looks like no one read past the headline and his subheading. If you read the full comment it’s obvious he’s not saying “Well, people need to get comfortable with not owning their games because that’s what’s gonna happen…” Because that’s how everyone who’s up in rms about that “quote” seems to take it.

He saying for the subscription model to work, gamers have to get comfortable with not owning their games. But, there’s a choice between subbing, buying digital, or buying physical. He’s not being dismissive like many proclaim.

Re: At a Tumultuous Time, Assassin's Creed Shadows Is Doing the Business for Ubisoft

@Zuljaras that’s paraphrasing, not quoting. But it seems no matter his answer you’ve already had your mind made up. Its either Ubisoft is outright telling people they need to be comfortable with not owning their games. Or they mean exactly that, but didn’t say so directly.

It kinda proves how the angry YouTubers control the narrative. Like, I watched a YouTuber who’s okaying Shadows and he’s just playing the game. Not saying it’s amazing or the best game ever. Just playing. His entire comments section is people negatively commenting about Yasuke and hatred for Ubisoft. The you go to a YouTuber who’d post something like that misquote and those same people in the comments section are eating up the BS. It’s insane behavior!

@KawakiisaFraud I went ahead and pulled the transcript for you:

” One of the things we saw is that gamers are used to, a little bit like DVD, having and owning their games. That's the consumer shift that needs to happen. They got comfortable not owning their CD collection or DVD collection. That's a transformation that's been a bit slower to happen [in games]. As gamers grow comfortable in that aspect… you don't lose your progress. If you resume your game at another time, your progress file is still there. That's not been deleted. You don't lose what you've built in the game or your engagement with the game. So it's about feeling comfortable with not owning your game.“

“The point is not to force users to go down one route or another," he explains. "We offer purchase, we offer subscription, and it's the gamer's preference that is important here. We are seeing some people who buy choosing to subscribe now, but it all works."

And I think that’s the point — I am definitely on the side of owning the disc (talking about consoles of course because today even physical sales are not necessarily possible to run without a launcher, be it Steam, Ubisoft or any other platform where you redeem the code). Only exception I know that has written the philosophy of “owning your games” all over is GOG.

Your “quote” isn’t even said by him at all! And he even said “I am definitely on the side of owning the disc…” So again, please read past the headline and don’t follow YouTubers who obviously have an agenda.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows (PS5) - Striking Open World RPG Is a Real Cut Above

@species hey. I’ll tell you why San Andreas didn’t fall into that category. It’s because it’s a game about the hood. And a Black guy has to be the lead in that game. See, when a Black guy gets out of place, that’s where the ruckus starts. Seriously! There’re people who complained about Captain America going woke because they made a Black guy be Captain America. Not knowing this is canonical. First thing they saw was Black.

As for the culture wars being new. That’s true. Like, Alien: Romulus got backlash because the lead is a female and her Android brother is Black. People complained about Alien being “woke” because it has a female lead! Alien! The film that’s had a female lead since the beginning.

I swear, in today’s climate, Ripley and Sarah Connor would never be revered as they are if they’d have been brought to the screen within the past 10 years. Neither of them are the desired female lead archetype.

@DennisReynolds I keep saying it. Yasuke (Or any other Black character) is usually fine as a background character. But move them to the main character and there’s a problem.

I had an exchange with someone a little while ago regarding Green Lantern John Stewart (The Black Green Lantern). Everyone was saying how awesome he is and then some guy chimes in and says: “See. We don’t mind Black characters at all! They just need to be great characters and integral to the story!” My question is why? Why can’t Black characters just exist like everyone else? Why do they have to be special or “magical” (IYKYK) to be accepted? Why can’t they just be a part of the show without having to be some sort of plot device to advance the white main?

This is why Yasuke in Nioh was never an issue. Yasuke in Samurai Warriors was never an issue. He was in his place; the background. Assassin’s Creed Yasuke got frisky and dared to be in the spotlight. And that ruined the historical accuracy of this video game.

Re: Journalist Apologises for Adding Fuel to the 'Final Fantasy 16 Flopped on PS5' Fire

@naruball thanks! Hollywood and the gaming industry have bloated budgets and make it hard for anything to be financially successful.

For example, the new Captain America has grossed 400 million worldwide but they’re saying it’s a flop. Why? Because the budget was so big that it’s barely turning a profit. Rewind to 2011 when the original Captain America grossed 370 million worldwide and it’s considered a resounding success.

The budgets are too big when you include production costs and advertising. It’s one of the reasons so many have moved to digital. They’re trying to cut costs somewhere.

Re: PlayStation Marks 20 Years of God of War in Tribute Video

@nomither6 an “overwhelming majority”?! Where did you pull this “fact” from? I’m a God Of War super fan and I love all the games. But I prefer older gameplay. Many feel the opposite. But there’s no evidence that an overwhelming majority feel heavily about the games one way or another.
