Re: PS5 Fans Furious As Microsoft Ships DOOM: The Dark Ages with Just 85MB on the Disc

Andywax

Digital is convenient but relies on good internet connection and storage space. Physical, especially for single player games that shouldn’t require an internet connection, is stable and has longevity. No one is going to “pull it” from your shelf. There’s also the increasingly nostalgic feeling of coming home from the shop clutching your new purchase or excitedly waiting for the post to arrive. Not to mention physical goodies in the box; mini-magazine, stickers, posters, maps (God I love a good in-box map! Thank you Rockstar for all those years). I may be showing my age, but there’s a lot of positives to physical copies. That said, you can’t impulse buy a physical game from a sale in the middle of the night and download it while you sleep.

Re: Oblivion Remastered: Everything We Know Ahead of Its Rumoured Release This Week

Andywax

As someone whose only Elder Scrolls experience is Skyrim (actually there was a brief dabble with ESO too), I’m really excited for this. I can’t judge its remake/remaster credentials against the original as it will be completely new to me; this lack of nostalgia may be a benefit. My hope is it will nicely fill the gap between Skyrim and Elder Scrolls VI, using Skyrim as a standard but introducing mechanics they’re working on for ESVI maybe? Only (a very short now) time will tell.

Re: Almost All PS5 Fans Are Against $80 Games

Andywax

I’ve got enough of an unfinished, occasionally unplayed at all, back-catalogue to keep me going for years! If I want something specific I’ll wait for at least 60% off (those 80-90% deals are amazing to find!). It would have to really appeal to me to be bought at release price. Atomfall is tempting me currently. GTA6 is going to be hard to resist. And Light No Fire has me intrigued.

Re: Capcom's Crappy Microtransactions Are Back in Monster Hunter Wilds, Including Paid Character Edits

Andywax

By all means sell clothes, weapon skins or other cosmetics. There will always be people willing to part with cash for a cool look. But charging to actually make changes? Step too far guys. You can keep your tight little game. You’re already charging between £65-£100 depending on version. Then there’ll be the inevitable dlc. I’d like to know from someone within the industry; how hard is it for a major title like this to make a profit?

Re: Geralt Actor 'Slapped by CD Projekt', Walks Back The Witcher 4 Comments

Andywax

With the majority of gamers coming to The Witcher through Wild Hunt playing as Geralt (yes, I know, “I read all the books”, “I played from the first game”, well done you), and potential new gamers curious about playing after watching the tv show, they’d be mad not to include Geralt wouldn’t they? Even if he was lead support to carry the story along and the playable character was new. It’d be a glaring omission if the best known character wasn’t there.

Re: Feature: Everything You Can Do in PS5's New Welcome Hub

Andywax

This is Push Square right? The PlayStation focused website? Why do so many Xbox/PC shaggers actively come here to crap on PlayStation? Surely it’s less effort to just ignore it and get on with your own thing? I guess Xbox and PC can’t be all that great if they can’t hold your attention for more than 5 minutes before you jealously start looking at other platforms. I’ve not once gone over to “Push B” or whatever the equivalent is once because, guess what, I don’t care.

Re: Mini Review: Vampire Survivors (PS5) - Indie Icon Should Come with a Health Warning

Andywax

@Olmaz Our “niche hobby” has gone mainstream? Just a bit!
The global gaming market expects to reach $256.97 billion by 2025.
More than 3.22 billion people worldwide play games.
The console gaming market was valued at $48.95 billion in 2022.
I think there’s probably room for everyone to have something they like, but with figures like that there’s bound to be dictators who think their word is law - eh, @Olmaz?

Re: Helldivers 2 Dev Says It's Seen 'Horrifying' Toxicity from Some of the Community

Andywax

It’s probably a massive task to undertake but the solution would seem to be:
1. Lockdown offenders accounts with a clear explanation of why.
2. Allow an appeal and have a human consider the offenders response.

And that’s it. There’s nothing more frustrating than being punished for something with no idea what you’ve allegedly done and no way to appeal that punishment.

Re: Hands On: Fallout 4 Next-Gen Runs Great on PS5, But Some Old Problems Persist

Andywax

In the first few hours (spoiler free timeline of Red Rocket, farm, Concord, Sanctary) I’ve had two full crashes, Preston walking around with a bin wrapped around his legs like a Dalek and Sturgis stood in and then on a workbench. It’s all Bethesda baby! That said the load times are a blessing, it looks a little better and it plays smooth as butter.

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

Andywax

Firstly the price was always an issue. Charging more for a peripheral than for the system that runs it? Okay guys, if you’re sure…
Lack of backwards compatibility was the second hurdle. I’ve got loads of VR titles built up in my library from PS+ releases that I couldn’t play.
In fact thirdly, I’ve never played a VR title as it’s one of those things that I don’t know if I’m going to like or even be able to use at all. It’s a lot of money to gamble on a niche product.

Re: Naughty Dog Has 'More Than One' Ambitious PS5 Single Player Game on the Way

Andywax

Naughty Dog is a name that always piques interest. Three years with no word doesn’t worry me. You know you’re going to get quality when they deliver. Is it worrying multiplayer has been cancelled? No! Frankly more studios should take a lesson from them. It’s ok to cancel something you’re not happy with. The trend of releasing broken or unfinished games because “deadlines” needs to end.

Re: Twitter Integration to Be Removed from PS5, PS4 Next Week

Andywax

So ‘direct’ posting is being removed, but what if I upload clips or pics that are saved in my camera roll, and tag them PS5, PSShare, PlayStation, etc.? Am I looking at getting banned (despite the idiot billionaire blathering about “freedom of speech” being so important (except where he personally doesn’t agree with it…)?

Re: Larian Unveils Baldur's Gate 3's Most Milquetoast Multiclass Builds

Andywax

In my solo game I’m a gnome monk. She’s tiny but is getting so many move options and ass kicking abilities I love her!
In my two player game (with my son) I’ve gone with a githyanki bard. The gith were new to me so I was curious and I’ve never played a bard. The contrast between warmongerer and entertainer is fun. I came up with my own backstory of a lost gith youngling being adopted by a troupe of travelling entertainers. Bard has some genuinely funny interactions.

Re: Street Fighter 6 Under Fire for Ridiculous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DLC Pricing

Andywax

Let me start by saying I believe everyone in the industry should be fairly paid. That said, I find these profit machines very distasteful. Either put out a free or low priced game that relies on in-game purchases to make its money back OR charge me full price for a game then drop some free dlc or low priced extras. I make an exception for large dlc packages (Witcher 3, Horizon, etc) that greatly extend the original experience. But it feels like games like this or sport games that charge £70+ for base game then expect constant revenue from “card packs” or player purchases want a dual income.

Re: Highly Stylised Racing RPG Resistor Looks Like a PS5 Winner

Andywax

Feels like it’s been an age since we had a game like Mod Nation Racers. The customisation and creation was fantastic! I made a zombie driver and a car based on Stephen Kings ‘Christine’. A shiny new PS5 Mod Nation would be immense. This looks like it might be a blast though. Will def keep an eye on it.

EDIT: Looks like there was a ModNation Racers 2 on PS4 and PS5. How did this pass me by? The kids loved the original. Need to look into it.

RE-EDIT: Apparently there’s a very good fake article about the release of MNR2 which even covers the disbanding of devs UFG stating some members continued to work on the game with the new developer. Disappointing but there you go.
