I think there was an interview with a MS spokesman recently that said that the next gen brand is just 'XBox', implying that the Series X is possibly one of a range of consoles. There's some stuff from AMD which implies a lower-spec XBox which may be positioned against the PS5 (Anaconda/Lockhart?).
I think it's unlikely MS would go all-in on a high price-point console after this gen.
I think the big difference between VR and 3D TV is that 3D glasses for TV didn't deliver anything unique; there just wasn't enough extra benefit to wearing the glasses so people gave up on them and watched the same content in 2D.
VR does offer something genuinely different, so I think it's got better chances. Whether enough people are prepared to put up with the inconvenience to be able to access VR content to make it worthwhile making hardware and software remains to be seen, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion.
+1 for Dirt Rally VR. Bumper cam with all UI switched off is an awesome experience.
I've got a lot of value out of RE7, Firewall, Superhot, Astro Bot, etc, but the icing on the cake for me is Wipeout Omega Collection. Full game, full speed, no compromises, free update to the non-VR game.
I think that PSVR has been very successful. It was never going to be a mass market thing, for many of the reasons mentioned above, but I think it would be a shame if Sony didn't carry on investing in the next gen.
I wonder if the back 'paddles' are analogue or digital. If they just click without any travel then they won't be a very good substitute for the L1, L2, R1 and R2 buttons.
Day 1 for me. I love the hype of a new launch. Will pre-order as soon as Amazon allow, and will take the launch day off work, just like PS3, PS4 and PSVR.
My point it is that posting 0/10 reviews clearly isn't a genuine assessment of quality. It's literally saying it couldn't be any worse: even if a game ran at 1 FPS and then bricked your console it couldn't be worse.
I was a bit surprised by how divided the Death Stranding reviews were, but I still think I'll get it on release day.
Whatever you think about the game or Kojima, I think that Sony deserve praise for funding something original, rather than playing it safe and spending the money on a shinier iteration of something we've played before.
@oatmealwarrior92 Interesting question. I'd guess summer, maybe early June? Any later and it would be getting too close to the potential PS5 launch (unless it's cross-gen).
I think there will be three models for cross-gen this time around:
1: For games releasing a while before PS5 launches, or smaller games, an enhanced boost mode using the PS4 game, either disk or digital. Higher or more stable framerate and upscaling.
2: A full remaster. Buy the game again. Probably limited to big games releasing well before PS5 launch, in case PS4 sales are hurt by people holding off for next-gen.
3: An additional download offered at extra cost to owners of the PS4 game to upgrade to the PS5 version. Priced at maybe 50% the original cost. I think this is most likely for big games releasing close to launch. Effectively downloading the entire PS5 version, but using the PS4 disk/digital version as a discount key. Standalone PS5 version available alongside for those who skipped the title last-gen.
Can't see PS5 launching until Q3/Q4 2020, as Sony have to get maximum return on their remaining PS4 exclusives first.
Enjoying this feature, but it always makes me hungry. Dreams has really got its little hooks into me, whenever I get chance I'm tinkering with the 'game' I've been trying to make. It was meant to be a shooter, but I've ended up building a mega-complex map system for no obvious reason.
I'll be tuning in next time to see how it's going. I'm hoping for some double-dipping risk/reward mechanic... Dare you max out your salsa load for extra points, but risk losing your chip and the disapproval of fellow passengers?
I've been 'playing' Dreams whenever I get the opportunity since early access came out. I agree that a lot of the playable content is short and of variable quality, but there are a lot of gems to be found. I think one thing preventing people from going all out and creating full-length games is the fact there's no guarantee that early access content will carry forward into the full release. It would be gutting to invest a lot of time into something and then have it trashed by a breaking change or disappear entirely. Anyway, for now I'll enjoy my endless tinkering with the game's logic system...

Re: Talking Point: Is the Back Button Attachment an Attempt to Bring the DualShock 4 In Line with PS5?
Interesting. This is the first/only use of the little 'EXT' socket on the DS4, AFAIK. I always wondered what it was for.

@NeoReaper82
That's quite an aggressive reaction.

Re: Of Course Death Stranding Is Getting Review Bombed on Metacritic
Posting 0/10 scores on Metacritic is a juvenile overreaction. It's the equivalent of a teenager screaming "it's so unfair, I hate you".
Just ignore it. It has no relevance.
