such a cool game, great systems, really polished and the art direction was top tier. i loved it, its shame it didnt do well. people complain up and down all day about games not being original anymore and then when a major studio releases something actually unique nobody buys it depressing
@DennisReynolds sigh. im not talking about the lore reasons. im talking about how its just a bummer to see a creature staring at the sunset and then when you have injured it sufficiently jt runs to hide at its home and you chase it down to kill it there. and anyway the lore was communicated pretty badly in that game. the entire game felt like this strange argument for like... colonization and expansion. the lore can say "no no they are actually bad Monsters" all it wants but the actual thing you are seeing on screen doesnt actually communicate that whatsoever.
@Mintie none of that changes the fact that every fight ends with you chasing a wounded animal back to its nest. its so so depressing. i put maybe 300 HOURS into mhw and thought the gameplay itself was in a literal tier by itself, but that cruel aspect eventually killed it for me to the point where I was going to skip this one. the tone and themes of that game (and the deranged imperial politics) as a first time player were TERRIBLE.
theres this very specific phenomenon where people anticipate a game from a new studio based on marketing for a year a two, get really hyped on it, and then every review is like "has tons and tons of flaws, is actually kinda bad, anyway 8/10". it drives me crazy. i KNEW this was gonna be one of those games, and here we are. i stand by my position that people are literally brainwashed by marketing and they dont even realize it.
am i the only person on earth who felt like demons souls remake was technically beautiful but polished all of the "soul" (lol) out of the game?? why a bloodborne fan would want them anywhere near that game is just totally beyond me.
disco, in my opinion, was the most mature expression of the medium so far...some of these commenters are showing their whole a** with these comments. it wasnt pretentious in the slightest, you just werent smart enough to understand. respectfully.
@Cherip-the-Ripper "developer challenges and tasks" is if the entire game (and all games ever made) arent literally a collection of "developer challenges and tasks"...
these comments are blowing my mind!!! in the same breath people saying "this is a horrible decision" and then turning around and saying "well at least i can enjoy the game now, without worrying about a plat". guys! get a grip! "Fewer developer challenges and tasks. That’s just lazy and shows a lack of care for their player base." WTF??? this dev spends two years making a massive DLC and because it doesnt have an arbitrary list of tasks to complete they dont care about their player base? lunacy.
XCOM 2 is basically may favorite game, and when they announced their next game was a MARVEL game i was just so incredibly disappointed. i tried my best anyway but couldnt make it more than two hours in, not because of the gameplay, which was pretty great, but because of MARVEL. i just couldnt possibly care less about these characters. i think for a lot of xcom fans a big part of the loop was building your own characters, getting attached to them, worried about sending them out to possibly die. not like... the relationship between wolverine and ghost rider. ugh god who cares. in the end it wasnt the cards, it was the IP. they probably thought it was going to bring them a bigger audience but what it actually did was alienate a lot of xcom fans who could not possibly care less about superhero sh*t.
@MrBook on the other end of the spectrum, dont you think its a little weird that so many dudes are saying its a perfect 10 because "gaming is too woke now"? it scans as being kinda ummm, sweaty? gamer gatey? and im saying this as someone who has a nier sticker on their car and has probably put 300 hours into conan exiles, a straight up 5/10 game that has lots and lots (and lots) of skin.
@Sondheimist i agree with you broadly but this game had an absolutely MASSIVE marketing push, and maybe im just jaded, or a cynic, but when the marketing is that hardcore it usually means the brass feels like they need to ahead of potential criticism. just saying that its healthy to give ANY marketing the side eye, doubly so when it was this heavy. peace and love
@NEStalgia this has been exactly my feeling since the initial trailer, and the demo for me personally was only "ok". people can say its not the case as much as they want but i really feel like we are seeing how powerful marketing can be for someones final evaluation of a game. especially when the main player base is, uh... lonely men. lol.
didn't see that coming!!! (100% saw this coming) for real though, i'm really surprised that after years and years of game marketing under our belts that people still cant spot a mediocre game from a mile away, i'm looking at you stellar blade
I'm going to say something controversial... please do not let Bluepoint anywhere near this game. I thought Demons Souls remake looked great, played great, but removed all of the soul from the original. All of the weird choices Fromsoft made were completely sanded off, they even turned the cool menu designs from the original into some boring old autodesk looking menus. Depressing.
@saffeqwe i didn't say re2 isnt good, i said its not for me...theres a difference. what I was doing is illustrating that different people get excited about different things
as usual people jump into the comments acting like the kinds of games they like are the only good games..... hardspace and shadow tactics are both INCREDIBLE games, if you havent played them then the subscription paid for itself right there. i personally couldnt care less about re2 and yet people think its the only good game on here....expand your horizons people
the terms these devs are using like "engagement", "metrics", "consumed" are just so pathetic. its a total self report, showing they dont think of what they make as an art form at ALL, just pure corp speak from people trying to suck at your wallet.......deeply, deeply embarrassing.
How about we just not have puzzles in these types of games at all? You're telling me that this room has sat undisturbed for centuries but is somehow decayed in such a way that it utilizes Aloys precise set of skills?? Its immersion breaking, forced, boring, and feels like padding. Same goes for crafting systems, Kratos would never walk around picking up every twig...and he definitely wouldn't have time for "puzzles".
People here seem pretty down on the idea of this, but as someone who doesn't play a lot of multiplayer games I ended up loving Conan Exiles and had tons of really memorable experiences...I'll gladly be the guy in the comments saying that I'm excited for this.
